What year did the good frames come into production?

I have a 1996 Taco in Wisconsin with a solid frame. Dam truck won't die but I want to upgrade to a 2001-02-03 but the frame issue doesn't seem worth the hassle. I talked to a 2014 Tacoma owner tonight. He said it wasn't until 2010 that Toyota corrected the frame problem.

Could someone please tell me What year did the good frames come back into production (no recalls, etc..) ? Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What he said I don't think it has been resolved as of yet. Some say in 2009, some say it hasn't. Mine is a 2015 up here in the salt belt of Massachusetts and it has gone through 2 Winters. Still looks new, and I have crawled all underneath it.

I sprayed my frame down with the CRC Brand of Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor in the first week of buying my 2015, figured it was worth a try.

IIRC it was 2009 that the frames changed.
Frame recall is for 05 to 08.

I have a 2011, live near a state highway garage where the salt trucks start their routes on snowy days. They lay it on thick on the road I travel to/from work. Long story short, I've seen NEW trucks where the frame doesn't look as clean, black, and rust free as mine.

    Obviously before mid year 2011......

    I think it was 2009.

2011 here up in the northeast. Wrapping up 5 winters with heavy salt & calcium chloride usage up here. I've never treated my frame and it looks great. Some surface rust here & there on shock mounts, etc. But the frame itself looks good. All I do is hit a local touch free carwash with a great bottom blast weekly in winter (if temperature allows).

I think the frame on my 2010 looks fine for its age. There is some rust around the seams and fasteners but it's still mostly black.

Recall years aside, it's important to remember that preventative maintenance is ALWAYS good. Weekly undercarriage washes, not purposely driving like an ass in the salty stuff (making it fling all around), and parking in a garage if possible are all ways to reduce the chances of frame rust.

Here in Florida, my frame looks pristine. I dunk it regularly in swamp water. Then rub it off on sand trails. Not a year old yet, better not be rusting. 100,000 mile warranty, we'll see.

Weekly frame washes? Routine treatments? Really? Hmmmm. Mine gets washed underneath when there's a downpour and I have to drive to work. Does that count?

I had my 2010 sprayed at purchase at the dealer.
Rear bumper is rusting and tow hitch looks like it's seen 100 winters and about to fall to pieces.
But the frame surprisingly look good.
Very little rust in some spots but most of the frame is still coated.

This. Corrosion protection is supposedly improved from 2009 onwards. So far the underbody looks better than my Subaru, which is a year newer but doesn't get washed as often.

I live in snow country and I take my Tacoma through the touch-free carwash after each storm as soon as the roads dry up enough to be worth it. During the warmer months I might wash it by hand once a month but since there's no salt on the roads during the summer I'm not concerned. There hasn't been much snow here this winter so on average it gets washed once a month whereas the past few winters it was almost once a week.
