Recently purchased a new to me 2012 4d Tacoma 63k noticed a lot of grey foam in both center ac vents it still blows but its to the point that it hinders the adjustment of the vents and restricts a lot of air this is not a case of old foam blowing out but maybe some one has dissembled and did not replace them properly is this common or is it just my luck ! Appreciate any suggestions .

someone disassembled and put it back all messed up

factory fresh, the foam is where it should be

the foam itself ? honesty in this decade it could be done far better, but
even today, it is a simple strip of foam with adhesive backing and easy to mess up

...even 2016 audis and bmw have craptacular hvac foam seals....

and ya gotta pull dash off to get to it

Funny mine came loose like that new from the factory. How I resolved it was with patience, a pair of long hemostats and a slim screwdriver.

Grab the foam with the hemostats and work it completely loose using the screwdriver and work it out through the vent. I had to do it to the center two vents also. No big deal with it removed.

Took the radio and center ac vents out this weekend found a strange shaped foam cut out with very sticky adhesive on one side one stuck to each vent the glue was strong enough to keep the vents from being adjusted they were blocking at least 50% of each vent don't know where they came from or how they could of came lose being so sticky but problem solved!
