I'm not a mechanic (wish I were), screeching is sporadic with no common cause, but more prone to happen when first started & goes away while driving...

Either the belts are loose (1/4in to 1/2in deflection between pulleys max) or the belt is just worn and needs a new one. Belts are cheap, I just replaced all of mine for $35 for the parts.

I'm betting you have a bearing issue with one of the pulleys, modern flat automotive belts just don't squeal much without another issue unless they are wet. You may get a touch of ''chirp'' but that's about it.

Whoops, old one, V type, yep, if old, replace and tension.

Turn the radio up louder so you cannot hear the screech.

    it one of three things

    -belts are fine but loose

tighten the part that lets you tighten belt (alternator usually)

    -belts are worn

    replace

-belt is fine, a rolling part is causing drag

remove belt check all rotating parts for severe rotational drag or bad bearings

    also...belt dressing (anti-skweek) is a fools errand.

Pop the hood while the engine is running a take a look. Seek and destroy the squeak. Since your not mechanically inclined.......take it to a shop and have them fix it.
