Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the Diehard 31m? Mine has crapped out, and since they have been discontinued, Sears wants to replace it with their dinky $100 31m, which is pretty upsetting, but anyway...

I want to find one that can be found locally if it needs to be replaced, which is why I went with Sears to begin with. I've looked at the Duracell from Sam's, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere, which leads me to believe they have been discontinued as well.

Oh, nice. I didn't realize we had a battery store in Arkansas at all. Still would be over an hour drive though. Would really like to find one that is at a store that is everywhere, like Sears, Autozone, etc. But thanks for finding that. I call myself looking at Odyssey's dealers, guess I missed that.

I saw that and posted in that thread. NorthStar says on their website not to run the battery with an alternator that charges at less than 14.1 volts. Ours typically charge at 14v or just under... Also, there's not a single NorthStar dealer in Arkansas, which makes getting a replacement, if need be, a pain.

I am using the Optima Blue top 31M. Its a tad smaller but still works well with the cage.
The Odysseys are identical to the Die-Hards, they are the ones that made them for Sears with a different label.

NorthStar. You should buy a battery charger regardless. Alternators are just maintainers for big deep cycle AGMs not chargers.

Cool, I was wondering if it would fit. I'm currently leaning that route since they appear to have a little less stringent alternator requirements. In further research, Odyssey says something very similar to NorthStar. Also, I found this: I'm wondering if this coupled with the alternator charging at only 14 volts is what caused mine to fail after only two years.
Haha I own a battery charger. Just don't want to have to keep the truck hooked up to it all the time.

I have one and try to use it twice a month until the batteries are full. The alternator keeps them above 12.6, but the charger gets them to stay at 12.9 for a while
