I would look into a ram 1500 or ford with 3.5/5 liter engine if i am going to replace my 14 taco. I used to have full size before and missed the things that full size got. Right now, this 14 taco will cover my needs for awhile. Gonna run it good to get my money worth.

That is just loads of false information there. First GM transmissions are far from junk, think you are confusing that with Dodge.

Major repairs at 50k? Funny, we have been a GM family (got the GM discount for years) and have never had a mechanical failure or expensive replacement part outside of an alternator. We switched to driving GM trucks back in 1991. Many of them have gone 100-200k+.

This is the internet, everyone has someone that knows someone that has a story that supports their claim. You know I know 23 people that are only Toyota truck drivers life long that constantly need to replace their trucks ever 50k because of massive failure, they are junk. See how easy that was?

OP, Toyota honestly has been resting on their historical laurals for years. In all honestly Toyota reliability has been falling and the others have been catching. 15 years ago GM interior and bodies were sub par (mechanically they have always been reliabile regardless of what some here say) but that is less the case now. Vehicles today are very reliable mechanically wise, it is the long term electronics that are that X-factor. If you go to a GM forum you will hear much of the same down grading of the Tacoma. Buy what fits you, any of them will last. The new Tacoma isn't without its issues, and honestly both are brand new vehicles so it is to early to tell. You can't base a 2016 redesigned vehicle off how reliable its 1992 counter part was.

BTW trd, our 2007 Colorado we just traded in had 120k + miles of not an issue. Was the interior rental car plasticy? Sure, was it a little noisey and not super comfy or have tons of gizmos? Yup. Did it ever have an failure? Nope.

Good luck OP, buy what fits you. I would say reliability wise the ecoboost has had teething problems I have heard and Dodge is always a wild card. My co-worker just had to pick up her two year old grand cherokee from the dealer getting a spark plug issue fixed.

Do your HW, do the maintenance and anything will be pretty much fine. To show how much things change and not believe the past, look at Hyundai, Kia, even Mazda... Who would have bought a car outside of the Miata from any of them in the 90's?

The amount of rust repair my dad has done on his 2500HD pickup has deterred me from Chevy - brake lines, rocker panels, door skins, fuel lines, etc.

If it wasnt my new Taco, it would have been a new Pilot or a low miles used Element.

We had looked at the Colorado/Canyon just out of curiosity and to see what it was like. I agree, we thought it was smaller and seemed cheap. I love the Toyota's reliability, Chevy's can be troublesome. Their last Colorado/Canyon didn't pan out so well.

If I didn't get the Toyota I would have probably considered the F150, yeah it's bigger but I really like the truck. A few of our friends have the Ecoboost, love that motor. My husband has the F250, wish we could have got the Ecoboost but we still love the truck.

I would either get a ram 2500 or 3500 with a Cummins and a 6speed manual transmission or a ford f250 with a powerstroke. Both have great tech features and capable 4x4. If you go with the short beds they are still great off road rigs.

Posted this right before going to sleep and didn't expectsso much feedback. I'll try to cover as many replies without directly qouting people.

I would like to stay in the smaller truck size, I haven't driven a full size but just don't think I'd like it.

As far as hitting my head? I was driving down to the city to actually look at tacos when there was a dip in the highway and I bounced up pretty good and almost hit my head in my current truck with about 5" of head clearance. Maybe it's just cause my truck is older and it wouldn't have been as rough in a newer truck.

The 16 taco I sat in did have a moonroof. So I'm curious to go back and sit in one without it. Currently on my phone so it's hard to check, but can you get a TRD OR without a moonroof?

As far as tundras go I don't really want a full size and their mpg lacks so much (iirc).

As far as the Chevy goes I really liked the inside. I also love how it looks on the outside. And so many people bash it, yet others swear by it. I looked at CR reporting it in the top 20 cars to stay away from... But as far as I could tell it was smaller issues. Rattling noises, something installed correctly... But not like "my truck stopped working" or "literally caught fire".

On another note of reliability and rust someone pointed out with their Chevy I heard the same complaint about tacos.

Obviously a truck is a big purchase and I am trying to do as much HW as I can.

If I could afford it, I'd be going with a Silverado 4 door. That's really my dream truck, specifically the High Country.

A lot of people bag on the GM, but they've had a great run in my family. My aunt and uncle have a Silverado and Suburban both with 200k, and the only thing they have ever needed was an alternator and brakes. My pops ran his Silverado to 100k without issues before going to an F150 Lariat, my cousin still has his at 175k with no issues.

Their don't retain resale like the Tacoma, but in my experience they last just like them and that's most important. Dodge, on the other hand, is a very different story...

EDIT: Midsize, it was between the Tacoma and the Colorado. I felt the Colorado interior tried to be high end, but in a cheap way (if that makes sense). The steering wheel was also tiny, but its otherwise a nice truck. They look great with a 2 inch lift/level and some meaty tires.

Id never own another chevy... they rust out fast, there electronics systems fail, they fail mechanically, and they dont hold resale value.

Our family runs two F150's and a Tacoma. The Fords have never let us down.

The only truck I would avoid is the Rams. The Silverados are touchy but like someone else said they don't usually have a catastrophic failure.

My first truck was a 89' Tacoma
    2nd was a new 07' FJ
    3rd was a 2010 Tacoma TRD sport.
Kind of a Toyota guy. Started having a lot of electrical problems with my 2010 so I figured it was time to send her on her way. (UN reliable rigs aren't my thing)
Wanted a 2016 Tacoma real bad! But I've always had a thing for the crew max tundra.
The only 16' my dealer had at the time was a red TRD OFF-ROAD with all the fancy gizmos. I was wanting a MGM Tacoma. So I went and looked at the 16' tundra but the red just kept my eyes wondering to the Tacoma. To say the least little red is sitting in my drive way right now. Absolutely love the Barcelona red!! Definitely happy with my 16 Tacoma!

If you want a truck and not a Toyota then F-150 with the 5.0 all the way. Plus the aluminum body is pretty cool if you wanna go long travel or any kind of performance. The new 250/350 should be out sometime soon and that should be pretty nice too.
I worked in production quality with dodge, and GM and lemme tell you there stuff is an absolute joke. Stay away at all costs. Ford is the only American manufacture that has moved into making modern vehicles and using applying manufacturing techniques well. Working with them is productive and effective. Dodge is super cheap but now that they are FCA it seems to be getting some better but you can't change such a big company overnight. GM spends so much man power and effort on things that are completely useless. It's amazing they haven't gone broke yet... oh wait. Can't say anything about Nissan becuase I haven't had any experience but my opinion is they always seem second rate to Toyota.
All this being said, Toyota is on a level of their own. When you start a project with them they come in and almost take over. They have higher quality standards, they know exactly the lay of the land before anything ever happens, and they make just make all the right moves to get what they need as effortlessly as possible. They are so good at it it is almost brutal.

So, I would go toyota but if not then ford for sure... or whatever you do just not anything touched by GM.

I come from two previous Tundra's, an '04 4.7L Access Cab and an '09 5.7L CMAX, and now to my current Tacoma. Honestly, I'd probably just go back to a Tundra some years down the line in the 2020's if they get a new powertrain and redesign and I plan on having kids or need a bigger vehicle. Right now the Tacoma is perfect though as a single guy in his 20's, much more practical than my Tundra which definitely had it's uses and went 100k before I traded it in. Pulled 9K every few months with it too, never an issue.

Right now though, I'm having Mustang GT fever, or anything fun/fast with a V8 really. I miss the sound of my Tundra (Magnaflow dual in/out system) and the pull it had when accelerating. It doesn't help that my brother just bought a perfect condition, 40k miles 2002 Camaro SS (LS1) with T tops for his family. He's got young kids and they already love it. I really like the S197 Mustangs and could go for one in good condition. I do like the 2011+ with the 5.0, but I have nothing against the older models and it's cheaper. I've seen a few '06/'07s under 50k miles that were enticing. Gotta finish paying for all the stuff going on my Tacoma first though! Racked up way too much this month with the OEM Audio Plus system, MagnaFlow cat-back, lights, and others.

If I do get a muscle car of some sort, it'll be my first non-toyota, non-truck vehicle. But not as my daily (or so I think). I'll never be without a truck though, with the snow we get sometimes, and going down dirt/sand/sometimes mud roads out in the country. Plus I'd like to go backpacking and get up on some trails in CO or something in the future.

I hear ya....I miss my Vettes. Two Corvettes ended my love affair with GM and GM service. The Miata is nice but it's no Vette. IF I buy another Vette I will have to find some place other than the local dealer to service it.

lol, actually there's a wide variety of opinions. But since you have nothing to add, Ram forums are over there ----->
