Changed out my manual transmission fluid last summer and replaced the fill plug/crush washer as well. It's had a super slow leak from the fill plug since a month or two after the change and I finally want to do something about it.

Best remedy? Not really sure what sealants I can use when dealing with gear oil.

A little of this and a little of that.
I don't think there should be fluid above the fill port if the quantity is correct. I'd remove the fill plug, allowing any trans. fluid to drain out, wipe the area around the fill port clean, then replace the crush washer and torque the fill plug to spec.

    Good luck.

There shouldn't be any fluid resting above the fill port. But the bonus of a fill port is that the device itself is very hard to over fill. I'd remove the plug and gently clean the threads of both the plug and trans case, put on a new crush washer and a light coating of RTV. Torque to spec and you're GTG

I hadn't thought about the potential for overfilling it... Thanks guys, I'll try a new washer and some rtv this afternoon.

I would also check the breather hose, make sure it isnt clogged. On my 4 cyl, it is run up to the engine compartment next to the front differential breather hose.

Your transmission shouldn't have a crush washer on the fill or drain plug. It should have a flat aluminum washer on both plugs.

Okay, so maybe my driveway isn't as flat as I thought (when I did the initial change). Pulled into the garage and a decent amount dripped out when I pulled the fill plug. Afterwards, I tilted the truck a bit to one side to keep anymore oil from getting on the clean threads. This way I could ensure that the RTV would set properly. A dab of RTV on the threads and a new washer and Bob appears to be my Uncle! Went wheeling today and it still looked dry by the time I got home.

    Thanks guys!
