Wise choice, now you can fully utilize your annex room on your tent

Exactly, sounds like they'll get around to doing mine next week, mine is going to be a little shorter in height though, 12", but it'll still be enough so the annex is able to be opened all the way from what I've seen, unlike on some where guys just do the 4" or 8" bed bars and then have the annex all scrunched up when it's opened.

What sits on the bed sides is 90 degree angle flat plate that extend down with a bolt in each corner that is locked into the factory bed rails. Super secure then I have my topper sitting on the flat metal, and there is still enough room to used the hooks that came with it to clamp it down. Im curious though, why do you want to make an exterior rack when you can get a Leer or ARE shell that can take the weight of the tent or added cargo with a decent roof rack attached? Thanks for the kudos. If you are still thinking of going with the cage if you are in anchorage hit me up and you can take a look at the rack in person.

I'll pipe in here... My dad has wanted a rack to go over his Leer shell (on his Tundra) just for more weight capacity and stability. His Leer came with the shell rack by Thule and it is nice for small things, but I wouldn't want a RTT on it, and he would like it for larger items such as pipes, dip nets, and wood. Current rack says limit is like 250 pounds or so iirc, so a RTT is out of the option if he were to sleep in it as he is bigger and taller than me.

Are you sure that weight limit isn't just the moving weight limit? I know racks can carry more when they're stationary than when moving down the road but I may be wrong, I might be confusing it with the cab roof weight limit but I'm not sure

That sounds familiar and is probably correct but even still, I wouldn't want 2 people in a RTT relying on the rack option he has. Overbuilding is more fun anyways.

Understandable for sure, some things even though they look like they are able and are actually able to carry that weight, I'd still want to play it safe and go with a higher weight rating

there are many like it, but this is mine... okay, at this point, there are no more quite like it
plasti derp, loooots of plasti derp.... 10 inch sub, new deck, topper with camper setup
So like it was previously stated, the weight limit leer recommends is great for anything under 200 pounds, I am not one to bring anything up to recommend max spec... Heck, even if I drop any of my repelling gear I pretty much throw it out... So if I were to setup a tent on top of it, or put equipment up there I wouldn't have to worry about it, plus it gives me another platform to work with... It also gives me flexibility, if I were to take my topper off, I can still take my kayaks with me, but for whatever reason, in my head if I have a rack, I want my truck to be able to have the shell on too. The thing is that I will build that myself, I am pretty good welding, but some of my really good friends are pipe fitters, and as long as I buy the material, and give them pizza they will help me build whatever I need

If it's just having your bed covered and protected from the elements then you could consider canvas wrapping it. I was going to do it to mine but I have that mind set of do it right the first time so I went overboard and it was gonna cost roughly 2k for everything,

No, I have a topper on it, just contimplating what I want to do, it is more of a load bearing issue, the outside of the topper can't take much weight, and I would rather play it safe, I don't even know if I am going to build one, but having seen AFtweed's build just helps me with a concept I have been working on

You could build the rack on the inside of the topper, basically like a skeleton. Then just make your mounts go through the topper? I would look into that so I wouldn't loose the profile of the vehicle

I'm looking for something like that too. Found this, I'd like to put it in the blank in my 2016. Do you know if something like this plugs into the OBD port or connects directly to the battery? Might make the difference in whether it'll work for my 3rd gen or not.

From the looks of it you would hook it up to any switched power source (like acc, cig lighter, etc) so it shows voltage when the key is in, but off when you aren't in the truck. Not sure what the temp does, almost looks like it monitors cab temp, but only in operating temps 0-40 degrees Celsius

Now that my rear suspension is in I plan on throwing it on soon. I'll probably use the hobby shop on base, 7 bucks an hour to use the lift. Anyone care to give a hand?

But when the time comes it'll be flip kit, shocks, bump stops and new leaf pack

Would a vehicle lift help with rear suspension install? I doubt it would, but to each his own.

EDIT: I've only been there once and there was a drive on ramp...
