First of all, A Snorkel is NOT just for Crossing Water.
It is beneficial for Dusty Trails, Sand, and Overall Protection from the Elements.

*This is the ONLY Snorkel that can be properly fitted with a Super Charger*

Here is my current Rig with fiberglass custom fit by me.

    1.0 Introduction

We, at Airflow Vector, design Snorkels that not only improve the operation of vehicles in wet or dusty environment but that are also esthetically pleasing

    2.0 Generalities

Generally, vehicles are designed to operate as the best compromise between power, fuel economy and costs. In the specific area of air supply, engines are often starved of air. Air is sucked hard from a little vent under the bonnet or the mud guard to provide enough volume to mix with the fuel.

To make an analogy, it is like trying to scuba dive with a very long non- pressurized hose connected to the surface. It does take much depth before running out of air. This is because the size of the hose is too small, and / or there is not enough pressure outside to push the air down. This is an example of a net vacuum system; the lungs do not have enough power to counteract the pressure deficiency. For an engine, a similar thing happens and it requires energy to suck the air inside the fuel mixing system.

However, the improvements don’t stop there and we want to expand on another point which is often omitted: it is the amelioration of the vehicle performance and fuel economy. These benefits are obtained by the careful development of our Airflow Cold Air Induction System (ACAIS). This document explains how it operates.

In scuba diving, the issue can be solved by carrying a compressed air tank on the back or using a compressor on a ship to push the air down the hose. This permits reaching greater depth without lacking air. This newer arrangement has become a net compression system.

Understanding this issue, we designed our ACAIS to operate as a net compression system.

3.0 Description of the parts comprising the ACAIS

ACAIS comprises several parts, each one calculated to provide more air than the minimum necessary ensuring that the air supply remains a net compression system all the way to the engine. The parts are from top to bottom:

    · A snorkel tube· A connection system to the air box (combination of hoses)

    3.1 The Air Ram

A hat (we call it an Air Ram)

The Air ram is designed to provide the largest possible air intake while avoiding deflections. Its face is slightly leaning forward to scope as much air as possible. Its internal contour is modeled on a parabolic shape to create both a compression effect and a spinning effect.

The spinning effect creates a centrifugal force which causes the large contaminants (insects, large dust particles, water droplets, etc...) that have entered the Air Ram to fall in the bulged cavity around the snorkel
intake. The four slots cut at the base of the Air Ram are the exhausts for these contaminants. The particles get trapped in the recesses and are ejected by the air pressure. The excess air is then pushed violently (we like to say “rammed”) inside the snorkel body.

Because of the intrinsic aerodynamic characteristics of our Air Ram, turning it in the opposite of the direction of travel will cancel the pressure necessary for proper particle separation, thus removing its effectiveness. In extreme situations generated by high speed, it may create a trailing vacuum that could cause irreversible engine damage!

    3.2 The Snorkel body

The Snorkel body is divided in three sections, the Air Ram connection tube which follows the contour of the “A” pillar section of the wind screen; the plenum chamber, which is secured to the guard and finally the intake section which penetrate inside the motor cavity. Each section plays a role in air speed and pressure.

The Air Ram connection tube receives violently swirling air from the Air Ram.

Its function is the slowing down the swirls and to deliver calmer air to the plenum chamber.

The plenum chamber is an oversized reservoir of air. The calm air it stores is compressed and ready to be pushed inside the engine on demand. The plenum chamber continuously buffers the demand. The intake section allows the air to be directed through the connection system.

    3.3 The connection system

The connection hose supplied by our company is known as TRP duct. It is the connection system can comprise several parts depending where the air box is located. In most case the Snorkel intake section is connected to the air box via a hose.

made out of long lasting rubber impervious to chemical and reinforced by a metallic skeleton. The skeleton is critical to ensure that the hose keeps the same shape in all conditions. While it suffers a little from friction losses, it is preferable than collapsing under negative pressure and randomly restricting the air intake as it happens with some other non-reinforced connections.

Once the engine computer management system has worked out the frictions losses; it will adjust itself and deal with them. However, if the air becomes restricted randomly by the loss of volume in the hose connection, it is unable to adjust in time to cater for these situations. The tuning would then become inadequate.

    4.0 Conclusion

By fitting an ACAIS, you should notice quite a lot of improvement to the behaviour of your vehicle.

    · Improved air flow to engine intake
    · Improved output in both torque and horse power
    · Improved engine response
    · Decrease in turbo lag
    · Lessening of emissions
    · Lessening of air deflection by the air ram
    · Higher degree of air separation
    · Higher air flow inside the snorkel body

Our ACAIS is calculated to provide a minimum 200% of free air to the inlet as base load. All these advantages result from Cold Air Induction

System being a net COMPRESSION system. It is unlike other manufacturers that supply net VACUUM systems. With ACAIS, the crossing of water is a BONUS!

Ive been eye balling them. This is the exact snorkel I've been planning on purchasing in the next few months. If we can get these at a good price I'm in!

I am unsure if these will fit.

I will contact Airflow and see if they are designing a 3rd gen one.

Let me know if you would like to be added to the list.

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
I could be interested in this as well. Tried to flood my truck a couple times last year.

What color is your truck? I have a black fender with a hole for the snorkel you could use.

Well add your name to the list!
