Being proactive I decided to check ALL the important stuff on my new TRD 4x4 -w-tow Auto as the dealer would not do it unless they charged me ( go figure, you spend 36K and want some pc of mind) here are my findings:
    1) Front diff, took 9 oz
    2) Rear diff took 20 oz
    3) Transfer case was full from factory BUT strange it purged air when I opened the level plug?
4)Auto was 21 oz low ( checked with pinned thermo, followed proper procedure.)
    5) All u-joints were dry
    6) 4 of the 8 u-bolts were under torqued.

Glad I did this with less than 100 miles on the clock. I can rest easy now.

Your truck was exactly as mine. Nearly identical fluid levels and u bolt torque. Thinking of starting a business and just going around bringing new Tacoma owners up to specs.
2016 DCSB 4x4 sport. V6 AT Tow. Glad I did the checks myself. Not knocking service techs but from what I have read getting them to do this is a POA. And now I know for sure it is done. Checking the AT was a smooth process after learning the proper way to do it. I was a little anxious but it worked exactly as the service advisory said.

Has anybody tried getting compensation for the fluids/grease your purchased for all these checks? Since technically toyota would have to reimburse you for a warranty repair you couldn't get done at the dealer, seems like you might be able to leverage this and get some reimbursement if you proved they were low and they wouldn't check it without charging you.

I personally like the peace of mind of checking myself but it sure would be nice to get some comp on the crazy expensive toyota trans and diff fluids.
