I've been researching solid axle swaps on and off for a while, and on the Tacomas it seemed that one particular issue was if you're trying to retain ABS. After speaking with several individuals who have converted their trucks it doesn't sound like anyone has found a way around this yet. Can anyone on here shed some light on this?

I just completed my SAS... just tinkering with the small stuff now. At the moment, my truck has ABS which only works for the rear and the ABS light is on. I'm working on gathering the OEM brakes lines to replace the ABS version and remove the system entirely.

My understanding is there are no aftermarket housings available to utilize the ABS system, that goes for axles too.

Honestly, I've had mine disabled for quite some time... never missed it. Definitely wheels better without it too.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I'm not the biggest fan of ABS, but I do daily my truck and it needs to pass state inspection for now. Front Range apparently can do a swap with ABS in the rear for the 9.5" diffs, which is pretty cool, too bad it's still semi-float

Just put some tape on the light under the dash or pull the LED and dont worry about it.

I think they check to make sure the light comes on during the startup sequence, but I can check. I'm also not entirely sure if there are liability issues surrounding this, as you're kinda disabling a 'safety feature'.

Dynatrac offers rear 60's that'll reuse the ABS stuff but nothing I've seen for the front yet. I'd say give them a call or email. Last I checked it was something their engineers were looking into for the fronts.
Tacoma replacement axle that uses stock brakes and ABS stuff
Full Float 60HD for Hilux which should also work for tacoma.

Inquire about possibly making Toyota ABS compatible front axles. With enough interest they might come up with something.

Lots of company's offer kits for Dana 60 stuff for the JK. Maybe with a super duty swap and modification of your abs sensor it could work.

Damn, that's a badass axle, too bad it uses drums :/ It would be pretty difficult to break this 9.75" pinon though. With the FROR FF axle you get a 9.5" with ABS, FF, and disc brakes, but that axle isn't ready yet.

It is certainly possible, and has been done. Comes down to the axle, and ones ability to machine a new tone ring.

I need more info on this. I am gearing up to do a solid axle conversion, and really want to keep the ABS. I am a machinist at pearl harbor and have my own CNC mill, manual mill, and manual lathe in my garage. I hope to come up with a solution. Any help with this would be very appreciated. Anybody got pics of the sensor and ring?
    Thanks

This all I have but, it's for the rear axle. I would imagine they would be the same for the front.

I don't know for sure, I'd imagine as long as the distance between the norches and the size remain the same, you could do any i.d. as you wanted.

Wyatt at Rock Solid Toys has figured this stuff out as he has done more SAS on 2nd Gens than anybody else out there.

Lot of JK people here in AZ upgrade to Super Duty axles precisely because those axles have the tone rings in them already and there's aftermarket support to make the ABS and speed sensor connections. I imagine a quick phone call to one of those companies could be a good idea if they can make a conversion kit to work with a tacoma.

I'll contact Wyatt, but if I remember correctly there was something missing on his axles... FF or disc brakes... I've been talking to FROR for a while now, and they're just about done with a FF rear with Disc brakes and ABS. I think once that's ready it's probably the best solution for a rear end swap.

The option from FROR sounds interesting. Bet those axles will be pricey though

I think the ABS setup is different on the FJ80, but I'm not sure. Definitely would be the simpler route if it worked.

Get rid of the ABS entirely. I did after I installed my F/R Diamonds. Went with a Wilwood PV and the brakes have never been better.
As I posted the axle photo above in post #11, here is the same side of the rear now.

looks killer for sure but my issue is the christmas tree on the dash and passing random vi's. most inspections being up to standards of the vehicle year. and if i get told to put tape on it again im gonna loose it lol
