With the way I drive and being a 4cyl. I feel like having ect off is harsh on the transmission. It shifts way too soon and I have to gas it hard to downshift into 1st when it should be in first gear still in the first place, same thing with 2nd gear.

the ect power on should be standard without having to push a button. It would be nice if there is a "power" button, it would actually change the ecu to a more aggressive map to give engine more power.

I also drive a Honda si. And I bought the hondata flash pro and by just buying that device alone and no other mod. The ecu reflash they provide gives you smoother idle, eliminates rev hang. And eliminates drive by wire lag. My thought process is. Why was it not programmed like that from the get go.

I am hoping something similar cones out for our tacomas. I've driven manual tacomas before. That lag when you press the gas pedal is terrible. Would be nice if those people could fix it with a simple map update.

driving down the highway with it on then pushing the button to off feels like the truck is breaking slightly. much better with it on. also would like it to default to on.

So this " dildo " button turns ON the power mode. Thought it was the other way around. Turned off for power, obviously not.

Is there no way to have the ECT turned on at startup?? Rather than it always being off....

Just run a tap from the D shift position on the transmission to the ECT terminal. You may need an in line diode. Or you could just hit the ECT when you start it. But, i agree the transmission is really unpredictable and annoying. And don't let anyone tell you it gets better because it won't. Mine has 7k on the odo and it's still very much Jekyll and Hyde. A real disappointment overall. The engine is fine, the trans is poo.

What if you just tape button down? lol. Kinda sad so many Tacoma owners are so desperate to have a truck that doesn't drive like a Geo Metro.

I also hate pressing that button so I huck a frozen burrito or a small dead bird at the button that way I don't have to press it.

Do you need to know, or care?
I don't get how this is different than all those vehicles out there that have sport/econo mode buttons for the tranny. I get it's different than a Gen2, but essentially it's the same as most vehicles nowadays. Geez, even most super cars have those different settings. If you want to change your shift points and want more power, push the button, otherwise leave it in econo mode.

Geez, just a simple question bud! I tend to push it almost every time I get started on my daily drive. Just wondered if you can have it default to on.... Don't get your panties in a wad...

Manual says to use it when towing or when extra power is needed i.e. in the mountains. I can definitely tell when it's on.
