I am assuming this is more of a proof of concept than an attempt at a final product/solution. Can't wait to see where you go with it.

Unknown.. But talking to tepui and CVT .. It's either a Mombasa or old lab tent RTT.. But oddly enough tepui and CVT components work and fit on it..

Here's the update on the pvc frame concept: it worked great! Used a 12x12 tarp from REI and stitched my own door. Needs a few tweaks but it worked well enough on its first outing.

That is superb! One of the things I hate about tents is the lack of inside space. This design gives you so much more airspace that the walls should sweat less. Seems like your design is a lot easier to assemble than most of the truck tents I have seen.

Is this thing collapsable? Or do you drive like that?

According to him "as it is, it's all just press fit together. It breaks down into a duffle bag".
I suppose you could take off the fabric and drive with an open frame. Not like PVC pipe is going to affect the aerodynamics much.

No, but it would probably break apart at high speed ;)

I might investigate something like this but with a foldable wood or aluminum frame.

Did you use a heavy duty sewing machine to stitch it together?

I travel with way too much stuff to be able to do this. Unload the canoe, cooking stuff, food, hunting stuff, paddling equipment, coolers, moose/deer/bear/grouse/fish meat (when we get lucky), then setup tent inside the truck is not for me. I would rather setup camp on the ground. WAAAAAY les trouble. You must travel lighter than me.
It looks fun for a light weekend trip though! And congrats on the design!
