Rattle in the front by passenger footwell

Hey guys, so I know it's extremely hard to help me out through the forums, but I had a bad rattle by the footwell, and the dealership isn't doing crap about it.

I was hoping some body may have had the same issue or rattle on their tacoma.

It's on the passenger side footwell, it's a fluttering metal sound. Happens often at cruising speeds, and every once in a while on start up.

 

Check the catalytic converter heat shield is mounted securely to the floor of the truck

 

look in the wheel well at the rubber flaps that separate the wheel well/engine bay. my clips pop out and i get a rattle noise as well. i thought it was the antenna banging around but came to find out the clip popped loose and was smacking the bracket.

 

I'll definitely check that tomorrow, because that's the exact area it would happen. Any way to take the heat shield off and not have any issues?

I checked those and they seemed to be secure, nothing a little extra adhesive wouldn't help

 

Some cat converters build up a lot of heat. if it's easy to fix with a touch of a welder or whatever, it's best to leave it on, just as a CYA if no other reason.

 

Okay I'll try to find a fix then removing it

 

Knead and shove some of this around the corroded tin and peg.

 

Do you have pictures of where to put it?

 

If you have a GoPro mount it under the truck where the noise is coming from. Take a cruise and if you hear the noise come home and review the video.

The shield can corrode around the mounting stud that attaches it to the floorboard. Shove the gum around the tin and stud and it will harden (assuming this is the problem)

 

It's the correct location, I've removed everything from that area (glove box, dash, etc) and can't find the rattle. So fingers crossed

 

This actually seemed to be the issue, so instead of just pushing the clip back in, I zip tied all the accessible clips so they're not gonna rattle anymore. Hopefully it fixed it
