    Got mods?
Work better? Pointing out the back has had no ill effects. I think it would only change the aesthetic appeal and functionality would remain the same.

Depending on you handle length you may be able to get more clearance.

Why are they mounted at an angle? I have seen others do this and dont understand. Also is there and way to secure them in the tubes?

Why not angle them? Lower profile, less wind resistance, etc... Bungees could hold in place if need be.

Hahahaha good point. I dont have any good reason to not angle them except then you dont have to spend $40 on the metal plate to mount them to.

And I dont think your trucks power or mpg would notice the fishing poles standing up let alone slanted.

How sturdy is the RotopaX bracket? I've been looking for something like this to make a flagpole mount to rep the good 'ol USA by flying a flag on Memorial Day, July 4th, etc. Right now I've just got a bucket of concrete with a pole in it that I ratchet down. This would look a lot cleaner though.

I'd say it's sturdy enough. Bolts right into the bed rails super tight.

Like $30 each I think. That was with a TW discount coupon.

Very good thread! Thank you for this great idea. I did it last weekend!

The only issue I had was securing it to the rail system, the nut wouldn't lock in and it would slide out once tight; I grabbed a different hardware and reversed the direction, it's been working fine so far!

Nice lighting on your bed! How did you came up with that mod? Thanks!

    Just saw this thread...
I do a lot of surf fishing. My 11 and 12 foot rods would stick up way too much with this setup so I made my own. I had to modify my first design because it got ripped off in a car wash  (bent my track too:annoyed:). The arms of the new and improved rack can be removed, leaving only the 2 support tubes you see in the 2nd photo. I also added a 3rd holder for shorter rods. You can get creative and add more PVC fittings to hold more sticks.

I absolutely love this, and am going to try doing this exact setup. i'd like to get them a little lower though because my factory tonneau cover.
