I apologize if this is a dumb question. I just took my truck in for the 10,000 mile service and on the paperwork they wrote that the factory specs for tire pressure is 29 front and 32 rear but then they wrote that they adjusted all 4 to 35. Why would they do that? Is there a good reason or are they just stupid? Keep in mind that I still have the factory tires. And I know that they really did adjust them to 35 psi so it's not just a mistake on the paperwork.

I'm just trying to understand why if they know what the factory specs are, which they obviously do since they wrote it, then why would they purposely deviate from it? Other than this I haven't had any problems yet. They have done everything else as they are supposed to.

29 is too low IMO. For that matter, 32 is adequate but not ideal.

I ran 35 on my stockers front and rear and had better driveability and MPG.

Chalk test will tell you what the best setting is for your truck. Stickers don't really do anything but remove liability.

@DCSBFTMFW Was your tire wear still good? If there are no bad side effects I might just keep them like that because you are right, it does handle better like that. I could tell on the way home.

    Not for me.

Like I said, hit them with some chalk and see how they look.

My OEM tires wore evenly but wore like shit, only made it to 22k miles before needing replacement.

I will probably do that some time. On the other hand I do want an excuse to replace these tires. Haha.

It doesn't help that the Rugged Trails come with only 10/32" of tread on them from the factory. That's very shallow tread for an AT tire when you compare to something like a Dynapro ATm at 13/32" or Duratracs at 18/32".

Can't speak to those, I had Dunlop AT20s.

But I'm okay with either, didn't buy the truck for the sweet tires it had from the factory. Tires are so personal, I'd not even want a long lasting OEM tire. I'd rather burn it up or sell immediately and get one that I want that needs my needs.

20k was a year and a 3 months of driving, which suited me fine. The Dunlop wasn't a good tire.

It did give me great MPGs. 23/24 average and a high of 28.

Can't beat that with a double cab Prerunner.

I think the door sticker number reflects the requirements for the smallest most dinky-do tires you might possibly get as a factory install. I took my outfit in for an oil change (25K miles) and it was fully loaded for a work trip - they set my OEM installed P265/60R-18's to 36 psi. Worked fine for an immediate 2600 mile round trip.

They always warn me that the WeatherTech floor mats are not a good substitution for the chicken$hit stuff the truck came with - and admonish me for installing the spare upside down to access the stem. Last time they told me they would have turned it over for me - except that I have it padlocked in place........ DUH

Yeah I have the rugged fails and since the day I got it I have thought that with the front at 29 it looks like they are low but have kept it that way.

Just guessing, may be CYA thing - tires are probably warm when they adjust them, so they guess-timate so the next morning at home the tires will probably will be about 30-31, depending on how cold it is. I tell them check the spare, leave the ones on the ground alone - and check them myself the next morning - I run 33 cold. Another option is tell them 38, then lower them yourself the next morning when they truly are cold.
