    Hello all.
My name is Pete, in June of 2014. I purchased a 2003 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab Pre-Runner 2.7 4 cylinder. I got it with 71,000 miles.

First I would like to say thanks. I have researched and fact/opinion checked all kinds of stuff on here. Both before and after buying my used truck.

I have kept up on Oil changes and bought the Haynes Guide for this model. I bought this truck so I could start my own Landscaping business and hope to get 300,000 miles out of it.

I just rolled past 95,000 and I am having soom issues that have me worried.

I do not beat this truck, no overloading, no speeding, no off-roading and no towing. One night near the end of a work week (last summer and 87500 miles). I was getting on the highway after eating and as I approached 65-70 MPH. It was like I had veered out of my lane and hit the rumble strip before the shoulder. Violent shaking. I was confused and slowed/checked road. Bumps stopped but as I approached 65 MPH and 2500 RPMs. There it was and I noticed the check engine light blinking.
I freaked, contacted a few friends, bought a little Bosch code reader and after diagnosing the code as Cylinder #3 misfire. I opted to try changing out spark plugs the easiet and cheapest solution suggested. Sure enough spark plug #3 was a burnt filthy mess. I changed all four plugs and reassembled. Problem solved no more light no more shakes.
I am not naive enough to believe the problem was actually solved and two months later trouble was back.
The timing was terrible as I had no $$$. I have been driving it sparingly and just got paid for a big project.

I want to find and squash this issue and get this truck running tip-top. I want to know opinions on the issue. Most importantly I want recommendations for where to take this truck. I preffer independent, but I want this issue and others diagnosed correctly. Also general recommendations for brakes and tune ups. Should I get it all done at one garage? Will I save money? Should I switch out the coil on #3? I could probably do that myself?
I don't care about appearences, or size of garage. I just want to find someone who knows these engines and that I can build a raport with over the (hopefully long) life of this truck. I am near Richmond/El Cerrito, but I will travel for good price and service. I am not an experienced auto mechanic, but I prefer someone who would understand me wanting to do any work I could myself. And who would in general be strait with me about what work I need to have done, what work I should have done, repairs I could handle myself and stuff that is way over my head. I am a small business man and I run a service based company. I am not the type to be a pain in the ass, nor to ask to be trained or borrow tools and I pay good $$$ for good work.

So please let me know who's the best. '03 Tacoma Pre-runner Xtra cab 2.7 4cyl. I also have some suspension issues (loose) and need belts worked on (squeaky). Any and all post suggestions and/or replies greatly appreciated. Nice forum ya got here.
    -Pete
