I'm pretty sure it's what Troy and Troutguy said it was for... bonding the skin. My money's on them.

The Relentless is nice, but what happens if your tailgate latch fails, like from a rod disconnecting? It seems nearly impossible to get that one-piece reinforcement off to reach the tailgate internals while the tailgate is up. Probably have to cut a hole in the reinforcement to reach the rods.

That's why I went with the 2-stage system, the reinforcement sheet, and tailgate cap. You can take them off if the tailgate is up.

The same holes that hold the stock fiber tailgate skin on are used for the relentless one, as well as the same dimensions.... i dont see how there would be any difference in difficulty if something broke.

You could remove the stock screws, n slide it up n out, just as you would the stock fiber skin.

From the following quotes, it appears it is hard to just slide the Relentless one-piece reinforcement up without damaging the paint because of the tight fit. The following installs slid the reinforcement from the side, which you can't do if the tailgate is up and latched.

mine went on fine, put it on the truck without having to remove cables or tailgate from the truck.

I'm glad I found this. I am fixing my bent tailgate and want to re-adhere the internal tabs. Gonna look for the Fusor stuff.

Instead of buying a tube of the Fusor why not just go by your local autobody repair place and ask them nicely if they could squirt a few blobs under each piece. Even if they charge you a couple of bucks it's still cheaper than buying a whole tube and the applicator gun. And yeah, the stuff works very well.

I bought a tube of 3M 5200 sealant from Amazon, it was a scratch and dent item, completely sealed, heavily discounted. It's sitting on my work bench waiting for me to buy the reinforcement tailgate plate. Probably wont get to it until sometime late in April.

I've got a tube of sikaflex in my Amazon cart, gotta see if my buddy has a gun. I'm liking the idea of having a secure but somewhat flexible connection.

That's the idea for the final result. Some of have bought the one that mobtownoffroad.com sells. The original question was about the glue used on the internal tabs.

Time to close out my thread.

Here is what I ended up doing.

Bought some 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200, scratch and dent discount from Amazon, $10. This shit is super strong.

I thoroughly cleaned the tailgate of all dust and dirt, wiped clean with rubbing alcohol. Then I hand bent the stanchions back into place and applied the adhesive.

It takes a full seven (7) days to cure, and it's super strong when it's all done.

I ripped out all the shitty plastic factory nuts, and replaced with rivnuts.

Then I installed my aluminum reinforcement tailgate skin. It's only a 3lb addition over the crappy factory plastic one, which was bent like a banana. I put that into the trash bin.

Then I installed a tailgate strut in the corner.

To finalize my tailgate refurbish project, I added a low profile carpet.
