You can drive my 2.7 around for awhile, when you get back in your truck it will feel fast. :)

A 4.3 regear should help quite a bit. I need to steal the 4.3 gears and locker out of my associate's TRD OR somehow without him noticing. Once aftermarket gears become available, 4.3 take off gears should become available or just go even steeper as noted above.

I was around the Lotus Evora S, I thought about getting one but stayed with my exige S. I am sure a supercharger would help, but it only netted 295 ft/lbs of torque and as noted above it was a different engine than in the taco. It seems unlikely to me that a TRD supercharger will be offered. Maybe you can copy what is on the JDM sedan, but again that would be a stretch.

Part of the reason I bought the four banger MT is that I figured a diesel swap would be easier if I ever killed the engine, but given its durability, I doubt that will happen. I mean a 1HZ would be great, but it is still not particularly powerful, even with an aftermarket turbo and the newer engines seem complicated and even a 1KD-FTV (top of the range hilux diesel) is only 172hp and 260ft/lbs of torque. Would be ideal for me, but still slow for you.

As far as range, get a couple of good jerry cans and that will be fine. How many times do you really need more range than the truck has? Maybe for remote multiway trips but even with a NAS defender 90 (~170 mile range) I have only needed jerry cans once.

Umm....just a thought....how much fuel do you think you will consume and how long do you think it will take with the mileage you're getting now to recoop the cost of the gears and labor and such? I'm going to be going down this same road, and already plan the gear swap, the only advantage that I (may) have, is that I will perform the work myself instead of letting the dealership boneheads work on my R&P's. I'm actually forced into waiting (because I cannot find a locker for the front yet) until I can get a set of 4.56's to really get this engine back into it's power band.

You didn't know you have to re-gear BOTH axles?

I thought adults were talking here.

This is truly troll worthy. :bananadead:

Many times. Carrying jerry cans are for the generator. Depends on how long you stay off the grid. I like to stay offgrid for 7 days or more.

Well, those are the ratios for the M/T trucks. So they're the only thing available factory. I'm not well read on Yota axles to give you an educated choice on aftermarket. Although if there are options available then looking at 4.56 or higher would be a better idea. 4.30 would be an improvement but I personally would opt for more. 900 sounds about right for factory stuff, you will need front and rear because of the 4 wheel, can't have both axles spinning at vastly different speeds.

The reason I made that o_O face because I was like, "no shit Sherlock." Of course I know you have to re-gear both axles. I was floored they thought they had to tell me that.

Probably a different carrier, plus gear and pinion sounds about right. That's what it cost to take my Bronco from 3.73 to 4.56 front and rear.
