Today I cancelled my order on a 2016 SR AC 2.7 4x4 and am buying a 2002 Tacoma TRD off road V6 with 143,000 miles for $8500! Will post pictures later.

Congrats on making a decision. Any particular reason why you went from a new truck all the way to an '02?

I've always wanted a first gen, but they're always sold before I can even look at them.

The way I look at it is I'm getting a better looking truck that's lighter, has more HP, for 20,000 less

And 143k means you got a long time to enjoy it still. Good choice.

Somehow I think this post will receive less scorn than had you changed your mind for a 2nd Gen instead.

3rd Gen and 2nd Gen have a mutual respect for the 1st Gen's. Congrats, 143k miles is hardly anything for that truck.

I just went the opposite way going from my 2000 Taco to my '16. Would have stayed in the 1st gen longer if it hadn't had 200,000k on her and I could see a few repairs coming my way in near future so I traded the old silver bullet in. Hope you love your 1st gen as much as I loved mine!! They will take a beating and run forever.

I wanted a well taken care of low mileage 1st gen DC 4x4, but alas I couldn't find one at a non-insane price in 6 months of searching, so here I am in my 2013 lol. Regardless I love my 2nd gen.

I hope you guys are right about the demand for 1st gen. trucks as I'm about to put my 2003 up for sale. Personally, I'm tired of driving it after 13+ years!

Biggest mistake of your life!!! Lol jk I've had both and if you're looking for a build rig them you made the right choice. Nothing is like driving the new tacoma tho! Either way you are getting a taco that's why no hate. Congratulations that motor is bullet proof can't wait to see what you have planned for it

Thanks man. First things first is maintenance, gonna take me a few days to get all what I want done. It has Bilstein front shocks. So it sits level right now. Not sure what I want to mod. Any ideas?

First gens are awesome. They are very solid. I like them a lot. Congrats on the decision!

Just depends on what it is. In my experience in searching, you'll find the 01-04 Double-cab V6 4x4 models to be of the highest value. Other 4x4 models follow. And of course depends on mileage. Anything around 150k or below on ODO is crazy pricey.

Prerunners go for quite a bit less but still have good resale. But all depends on market. For example, down here in GA, I'm sure most Tacomas that came off lots brand new were PreRunners, so of course a clean 4x4 is going to be a golden goose.

1996-2002 4Runners are very similar....you find a 4x4 with low miles for the year (like around 150k or less) and it is going to cost you quite a bit, but as soon as you see its a 2WD or above 150k and the price takes a dip significantly.

95.5 Taco. Best vehicle I've ever owned hands down. Congrats and good choice
