I looked around the FAQ's, and didn't see anything really addressing this.

I'll be wanting to add some always-powered accessories to my taco (2008 access cab trd offroad), initially some LED lighting in the camper shell I just put on, and eventually some audio upgrades...

whats standard practice? do you guys just run your own power wire right off the battery + clamp? or do you take it off the +12 stud in the main fuse box? or is there some better place to access this?

specifically for my camper shell LED Lighting, I was toying with putting a spare 12V sealed 20AH battery I have back there somewhere, and hard wiring it to the trailer hitch "BATT", and running my LED lighting off that battery. this way I *can't* kill the vehicle battery when dry camping, and the engine recharges said battery any time I'm driving... I'd probably also put some aux 12V power outlets hooked up to this same battery.

Thats actually a great idea! I shouldnt of thrown away my lil battery that came out of my trailer.

But realistically, its gonna be hard to kill the truck battery with some leds.

I personally ran a constant hot from the battery down the firewall along the driver frame then into the driver side rear bed cubby. Then i went off from there with a 12v socket, a high amp 12v connector for my big accessories, as well as my LED lighting. Having a constant 12v hot back there is probably the most used mod I have done to my truck.

hey, just stumbled on this stuff.
    http://www.amazon.com/U-Shape-Aluminum-recessed-installation-Mounting/dp/B00VUAYFW8

I'm thinking that kit of 5 1m pieces and my existing tape is perfect. the roof of the cap is about 60" long, so splice two pieces together, and cut to length, secure them on the inside of the top just outside the ridge on each side, lights facing straight down. run my RGB LED strips, put the power module in a little pod about where the current dome light is, so thats the 'target' for the color choosing remote control...
