Yeah, that's another great concept by the banks. Hmmm, you don't have a mountain of cash, so we are going to force an insurance payment on top of your mortgage payment that you do already qualify for, and that means you have even less cash to pay off all that upfront interest. No, I'm sorry, you don't qualify for lube, either. Because we're the bank, and were here to fuck you, your wife, your dog, your goldfish, and your dog's goldfish, and every sorry fucker in the universe who doesn't have their own fulltime army of lobbyists and attorneys to make the fucking rules in this corrupt Gothamesque racket. Money equals freedom, so fuck you, we have more than you do.

But, but, but what if you just let me use that PMI money to pay down the principal each month instead? Doesn't that make good financial sense for both of us and reduce the bank's risk?

NO FUCK YOU THAT REDUCES OUR FREE MONEY ER I MEAN INTEREST YOU ARE OUR MILK COW YOU LITTLE BITCH!

    MWAHAHAHAHA! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

    American Dream shit right there.

    I'm not bitter or anything.

    Wrecked!
I just refinanced the next yr. And with the increase in value of the home I was able to get rid of the PMI. I know that may not be an option for you as its not a buyers market like it was a few yrs ago.

My broker found me a loan where they eat the PMI - I just had to take a 1/8th higher percentage. And in the grand scheme of things with how rates are right now, it's not bad at all.
