    Question about pulleys:

I am changing my belt today and noticed that the below circled pulley is loose and makes a grinding noise when moved by hand. This is obviously the source of all the noise under my hood. Can someone please confirm that this is a tensioner pulley and not an idler. I want to make sure I buy the right part. Thanks!

Yeah looks like just a tension arm pulley.

S-belt idler pulley. That one just above it should be identical. If you're replacing one, I'd replace them both. My 4.0 V6 has 3X of them, all the same part number, but I don't know how many the 2.7 has. Probably just the two.

Correction: Belt tensioner. Disregard nonsense in previous paragraph.

You don't see the tensioner mechanism attached to the pulley he's circled?

Upon further review, I do indeed see that it is the tensioner. Thanks for clarifying my misinformation.

If you look closely, you can also see that the pulley isn't attached to the engine and just the arm. Tensioner. Pow.

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. It does seem pretty obvious that it is the tensioner, just wanted to be sure. I knew you gurus would be able to answer quickly.

For what it's worth, I did search a bit before asking. That pulley is rattling and making noise like a SOB.

Changed the tensioner pulley and put on a new belt....now it sounds like Prius.
