Should I run spacers on top of my coils or crank the coils?

01 Tacoma 4D 4X4: So I've heard that cranking the coils(mines DR rebuild by Icon with extended travel) to a 3in lift is not preferred because of ride quality. It is better to put a strut spacer(1in) on top and crank as little as possible, say 2 inches. Is this true, anyone have first hand experiences with this set up?

I use the truck for hunting and light off road. Mostly driving through rough dirt fire roads.

I have a buddy that has thjs setup on his rig. Didnt wanna stiffen the ride anymore so opted for a 1/2 inch top plate spacer and that gave him another inch to be at 3 inches overall.
