Would like to put the TRD Pro black rim on the TRD offroad. Issue is 17 inch vs. 16 on the stock. Will this mod work?
    Greetings Tacoma fans,

Trading in my 15 4Runner Trail Edition to get back to the Tacoma (sold 2006 2nd gen last year to buy the runner). Settled on an Off-Road Tacoma in a long bed. Only issue is I want to put my 17inch TRD pro rims and tire set on the Off-Road, which uses 16's. Will this work?

Depends what size the tires are.

But if your 4 runner was stock, I'm gonna guess you'll be fine

265/70-17s should be fine, although I believe there have been some members reporting rubbing with this size - it just depends on the truck, as they all leave the factory a little different. I have this size BFG KOs and TRD Pro wheels and had no rubbing when it was at stock ride height. 270/75-17s may be okay, but may rub, especially if you have mudguards in front - removing or trimming them seems to solve it, usually. Anything larger will require a lift and, most likely, new UCAs, as well as a bit of plastic trimming and maybe some modification to the cab mount (aka CMC).

I have 265/70/R17 KO2s with TRD Pro wheels on my offroad 4x4 and I get slight rubbing on my mud flaps in the front. Usually only happens when pulling into a driveway. Modifying or taking off the front mudflaps will help but i think it will still rub if wheels are turned and the front shocks get compressed. I have not gone off-roading yet with the new tires but im 99% sure its going to rub like crazy if I offroad. I ended up ordering a lift because i don't want any rubbing.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like I'll likely need a lift kit. Must be the sport model is higher as they put the 17's on that model.
    Cheers.

It just depends on if you want to add mudflaps or not. I have the TRD Pro wheels with 265/70/17 Nitto G2s on a stock suspension with plenty room and no rubbing. Add mudflaps and you'll reduce the clearance.20160226_135607.jpg 20160226_133007.jpg
