Looked at Napa and other local auto parts stores....decided to order an Aisin water pump off of Amazon with a great $$ (Prime). Followed steps in my Haynes repair manual.....1 hour and saved $$$$...!

I had a manual that showed all of the steps...very easy project! Should take just over 1 hour. Pay close attention to the belt location/routing prior to removal. The fan and shroud are removed at the same time and pay close attention to the long bolts on the left side of the water pump...! I did not remove the tension pulley or the alternator ...worked around these item...!!! Good luck..!!

    "crushing the gasket" ?

All the Toyota water pump gaskets I've see in the last 10 yrs. or so were metal and thin. I'm not sure how this would impede pump movement. I take it you are turning it with the serpentine belt off. How does it spin off the truck?

Also - is this a dealer-sourced water pump?

If this were the pump you were removing it would make more sense.

You might queue up with Gates tech support and run it by them

hey Lester, I think I know what my problem is, been working on it all & now taking a coffee break, I put prmetex on it to hold it in place, I took all it off and tried it while holding it and the noise I'm sure is the gasket so back at it in a little while, do appreciate all the help from everyone a lot,,, thanks

Hopefully none of the sealant made its way into the internals of the pump. Metal gaskets require no sealant.

hey there Lester,, fixed but boy you wouldn't believe what I did and what was wrong. The pump is a gates so a little different, the impeller is what is different but just a little and I think when they made it some one forgot to finnish it cause they stuck out just a little more then the one one I took out, it was hitting the gasket even when I had it in my hand and tried to spin it so I took a file and took just a little off and put it in and nice works good and so I'll see, thanks so much for the input

I am not sure how much clearance is needed on that impeller but remember its going to expand when hot coolant flows thru, you should compare it to the factory one to figure out how much to remove.

I would not remove anything. Send it back and get another brand...OEM. Just my 2 cents.
