I was under my truck today taking pictures to send to the lawyer that is working on the class action lawsuit and while shining a flash light on my frame, there is a hole that is at least 3/4 of an inch. It's under a flap that is covering the hole so I can't see the entire hole without cutting that flap out.

Mine looked similar to that but with no visible hole. After inspection, there was a large hole where they hit it with a hammer to inspect it. Seems like some dealers were doing just a visual inspection.

Buddy, that's a failure right there (10mm perforation or larger). That's the spot where they all fail. The spot where it rusts from the inside out.

I don't know if something like that will pass your state inspection.

You get a lot of snow in that part of MO?

Thats the way it looked last year and they passed it. After looking at it closer today it looks like there are two layers of the frame right there. It looks like the layer of the frame directly under that flap is completely gone. The inner layer is still there but it looks like there is a hole in it as well you just can't see it very well. I've got a call into the service writer at the dealership as well as Toyota again but have no faith in them fixing it. Can a shop cut this piece out and replace it? I know that would be a temporary fix as the body mounts are flaking large chunks of rust as well.

It passed Inspection last august and it looked pretty similar. may have just gotten lucky. We get some snow but not a ton. I would say 3-5 snows a year.

As a rust preventative, I use fluid film. I live around Philly, gets lots of snow( or at least lots of times they put salt on roads, assholes!). Undercarriage is rust free. Just use on you're next ruck. Plus, I even rinse it off even if it's 25 degrees out, but that's just me

Well got my final answer from Toyota and they said they would not fix it. Emailed the president and CEO and got a call back from the executive office. They looked into it called the regional service director and they said they had already reviewed the case and denied it. I asked their customer service what I should do with my truck that has a hole in the frame. They said to take it to a fabrication shop and have that area cut out and replaced. I took it to two collision repair shops and they both said Toyota would never allow them to cut into the frame for liability reasons because it would compromise the strength of the frame in an accident. I guess I now have a truck that bluebooks for $13,000 that will soon be headed to the junk yard as it will no longer be safe to drive and too expensive to fix. Not a single person can give me a reason that they will not fix it other then Toyota will only inspect it once. I just can't understand why someone that keeps up with their maintenance and has their truck checked out when there is a problem is penalized whereas if I would've waited until the last minute, my truck would be getting fixed. As of now, this will be my last Toyota.

Best of luck to you man. I hope everything works out for you in the end. I'm with you, if that happened to me, this truck would be my last Toyota. It's pretty shitty that they aren't doing anything for you. Discount on a trade in, something....

The CRC is total bullshit!.. I had it done on my 06 because it passed the test about a year ago. All they did was cover the rust with undercoating...they didn't even undercoat the spots on the frame that the lift touched. Now a year later it's all flaked off and looks worse than it did a year ago....wonder what the stealership will stay when I go back and show them the condition of my frame now?

If your luck is anything like mine, Toyota will say, it passed last time so bend over and take it because we aren't doing anything.

I can't believe they are doing that. Your getting penalized for bringing your truck in earlier? My hole is in the same spot as yours but my frame would have passed at the time the recall started. Frame failure prior to march 31, 2016 should get a new frame period.

POR-15 and weld a scab patch over the area and call it a day.

The two places I check on said they wouldn't do that for liability reasons and because they couldn't guarantee it because it would just continue to rust. That was at a collision repair place though because I don't know if where to actually take it to have something like that done.
Second of all, if I fix that, my body mounts aren't far behind as they are flaking huge chunks of rust out of them too. According to the body shop guy, the only repair for this thing is replacement, he said I would be chasing fixes for ever. I would fix this spot and then I would be fixing the body mounts, and then I would be fixing something else as it just continues to rust away.
Everything I read says POR-15 doesn't work once you are dealing with flaking rust as it will just continue to flake off.

No reputable shop will fix your frame nor should you attempt it yourself. I can't believe the customer service told you to go have it fixed! The frames are hydroformed and any excessive use of heat such as welding in a patch compromises the properties and in turn the strength/integrity of the frame. Your best course of action is probably to continue to contact various departments of Toyota till your a big enough pain in there ass that they make it right .

Maybe you can complain enough where they will give you blue book trade in price and buy a new truck.

    file suit.
    then Toyota will fix it.

So I'm one of the unlucky guy here that had truck inspected around January 19 2015. It passed so they coated with that black goo and 18 months later I get this.image.jpgimage.jpg Any advice on what can be done.

I intentionally waited until 3 weeks before the March 31st deadline to have the frame inspected. What happened after that is that they were going to install the recall springs on it but they had to order the springs and it would take two weeks and they would call me to do the work when the springs came in. The tech talked to me with the service writer there and said he'd like to install the springs and then spray the frame due to the stickyness, I said no problem and I left that day. I forgot about it and they never called. I called them a few weeks ago because another leaf snapped and I was able to get them to install the springs the next day and even spray the frame on their dime. Toyota corporate wouldn't pay due to the dealers negligence to call me back in two weeks during the month of March. They made that clear a couple times when I picked up my truck.

Well if I'm not mistaken, the fact that your truck was inspected and frame coated, you should qualify for a frame replacement.
