I am doing an engine and transmission swap. I want to take a 1996 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 with automatic transmission and put it into a 2001 Toyota Tacoma that had a 2.7 straight gear. I'm trying to find out if the 1996 set up including the wiring harness and computer will work.
I am trying to take a 2.7 liter engine and automatic transmission, wiring harness and computer out of a 1996 Toyota Tacoma and put in a 2001 2.7 liter straight gear truck. Will this set up work ?

It might, but it would be illegal in California (AFAIK, you can't install a motor from a previous year).
Check to see if your state has the same rule.
