Hi i have a toyota tacoma prerunner 2014 4 banger automatic .... its got the suicide doors and a 6ft bed ... also 6 lug. .... anyways the specs say it has a 21.1 gas tank on it but the most I've ever been able to get in was 14.8 gallons this was on E. The most I've gotten out of it was about 250 miles ... if anybody has any insight into what could be the problem please help .... thanks

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but it sounds as if you have a 15 gallon tank.

Welcome to TW. May your oil change experience be less traumatic than the last dude named Krazie...

It's a 20 gallon tank. The low fuel light comes on nominally with 5 gallons left.

Maybe you're gauge is wrong and you have 5 gallons left on E? May have to do a Cramer from Sinefeld and run her till she quits to be sure.

Get a 2½ gallon plastic can of gas, bungee it in the bed, drive till you sputter dead, then use your gas can to get you to a filling station and fill it up. FWIW my 2010 regularly gets me 400 miles, and I get about 18 gallons in it when the light comes on. I've pushed it to 20 gallons, but that was running another 50 after the light came on. Still the gauges are for approximation. Do yourself a favor and test it all the way to dry.

To add to what Jere posted - it "clicks" off at the pump before truly full. I have put 2.5 gallons more in after the first click off. Also some users report the warning light comes on with 3-4 gallons remaining. On "E" with warning light on for 50 miles or so have been able to put in over 20 gallons total. My truck is same body as yours, access cab long bed with exactly the same tank.

I fill up when my fuel gauge shows 1/4 tank. On average it takes 14 gallons at fill up. Manual says it's a 21.1 gallon tank. That means at 1/4 tank I actually have 7.1 gallons in the tank still.

    21.1 / 4 = 5.275 gallons = 1/4 Tank

Fuel gauges are not super accurate on these trucks anyhow. They seem to "calibrate" them with caution in mind so you fill up before you sputter out...

Just doubled checked the 2015 Owner's Manual. It says 21.1 Gallon tank for all models. So unless your vehicle had an aftermarket fuel tank installed (post accident perhaps) you should have the same thing.
