Does anyone have hitch or frame mounted cooler & surf rod racks on their Tacomas? Did you make it yourself or buy a pre-made rack? How do you go about installing one in the front of the truck?

I bought the Curt and it was really easy to mount it by myself on my 2013 Tacoma. I like it because I don't have to worry about messing up my grill. I bought it from Auto Anything with free shipping. They took off a few dollars off from there sale price. When buying from them always ask if the can do any better on the price and they can.

I refuse to buy big stuff from them again. I purchased $210 roof racks from them. On the truck for 45 mins and taken off. Did not like them. Auto anything said 15% restock fee. I lost $32 on brand new racks..scumbags

I only buy things from online stores after I have seen the product in person locally and know this is what I want. My rack system is a Thule and you can't mess that up. You have to do your research before buying. Most online dealers have a restocking fee or you have to pay return shipping unless they sent you the wrong item. So far Auto Anything hasn't let me down.

upload_2016-9-25_15-34-17.jpgcurt31313.jpg Mine is little bit of a mash-up. Curt front rcvr, I had an Anglers fishnmate cart that I took the wheels off and mounted to their cart caddy. Added some taller tubes to accommodate surf rods. I'll probably end up buying a real cooler rack eventually. This setup will do for now.

it is am old thread but I am in the process of getting mine set up. Picts in a week or so once the mount is on.

I ended up going with the Mobtown front recovery bar on mine. Two reasons, the sport does not have a hook up front, yes was able to grab an off road one for the time being, but secondly I did not like how all the hitch mounts for the Tacoma were so low.

So basically I am getting the hitch and recovery points at the same time.

My bar should ship tomorrow or so. Cost on the recovery bar is about 400 ish powder coated. I was able to jump in on the Black Friday sale so it was less. I am super excited- especially since I got my rod/cooler rack for Christmas. I put it on the back to mess with it today. (Excuse the mess in the picture- just a little bit of Christmas paper was flying this morning.

Anyone have any suggestions on locking the rods down? I have some ideas, but I am NOT SPENDING 20 bucks a rod for the only locks I could find. image.jpgimage.jpg

Cheapest is a zip tie, while not a definite lockdown, it is a deterrent. That's why I do not travel with them up front. Don't want to get jacked at a red light. They stay safely locked up on te roof.

Got the monstrosity the way I want it! Just missing the ARB awning in the pic. Ramp 55 OBX. I'll have running water on this thing this year for gear wash down. I'm a freak now because I spent so much on surf gear. No more Wally World combos for me!
