    Just stopped working today.

Anyone know how to troubleshoot this? Speedometer is working fine and H/C and fuel gauge.

Sounds more likely that it's a loose wire or connection. The tach is held to the back of the cluster with screws that also are the electrical connections. One screw could be loose or have some corrosion on it. Just throwing this out as an idea. It's hard to diagnosis if it's intermittent.

MagnaFlow off-road exhaust, OME 885 lift w/ rear full Dakar leaf pack, anytime foglight mod and Contura V switch, aFe Pro-Dry S filter, color-matched grill, Yakima rack, ARE Z-Series shell, and probably more. Also have a 1996 regular cab DLX Tacoma and a 2014 DCLB Tacoma.
Any resolution? I ask because my 1996's tach hasn't been working. This is after I replaced the speedometer cable and had the dash completely apart, I worry I didn't put a screw back in somewhere. It worked before I fixed the speedometer. What was your solution?

How did you replace the cable? Mine broke and I was able to pull about 90% of the cable from the transmission side. Then I took about the dash to get to the speedometer side. I have tried to pull out the rest of the cable from the speedometer side (i.e. the square end) but it won't budge. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Assuming it comes out, can I just feed a new cable in from the transmission side?

Michael, there's a plate it feeds through on the firewall (on the engine side), and some clamps (three, I believe) on the firewall down toward the transmission/undercarriage. Did you verify that you got all those clamps disconnected or opened up? Some of them are pretty tricky to get loose. Once you get the plate off, you can pull it from the transmission side (or, as I did, from the top of the engine bay) fairly easily.
