I had a tailgate skin with the cap part cut off laying around. So, I figured I'd try to make a fuel tank skid out of it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

    What I started with:
    BD04F952-1A26-489C-8C7F-AC336101F719_zps_3788eb07d04c83e5eebb5235274b44e065c83be6.jpg

First I found the centers of the plate and the tank so I'd have points to measure from.

    Poor mans brake:

New holes drilled, angles cut, bends made, fresh paint:

Tomorrow I'm going to pick up some washers and nuts to bolt it on. The tank is indented where the tank straps are. I'm going to silicone a couple washers on the back side of each mounting point for spacers. I'll also use some weather stripping in a few spots between the tank and the skid.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

Thanks Joe. I'm regretting selling those sliders that I got from you now. I was going to stay on the pavement, but I'm getting the itch now...

I'm trying to find a vendor that can get me a set by the end of April for the Rausch meet. Probably won't happen though...

    That's why I fabbed up,the tank skid.

    How's the little one?

Other than being a nocturnal nightmare, great! He is starting to smile and really focus on me when I talk to him. Still hates napping on me for some reason, guess my chest isn't as soft as my wife's boobs haha. Had him in the shop the pther day in his swing listening to music while I did design work on the computer. He was all about it with the bay door open because the weather was beautiful.

    Looks good Tim!

Bored on a cold and windy Sunday?

The fuel tank skid seems like a something I could do. Do you know a source for 1/4" aluminum?

I wanted to go to the April Rausch event, but gotta be in Seattle.

Yeah, it's pretty simple really. Not sure on where to get the aluminum though.

Well, it's installed. It's not real thick, but I think it'll help the tank getting gouged or punctured. Time will tell...
