Have a M&P Shield 9 mm and love it. Now S&W came out with the Performance Center model with enhanced trigger and ported barrel/slide with fiber optic sights and find myself drooling over it.

Repeated jams can have just as much to do with ammo. My 380 hates snub nose rounds. Maybe try a different brand round before blaming the firearm?

Personally I was not a fan of the M&P shield, after extensive shooting comparisons I went with the Walther PK380 as my CC.

Range masters are nearly always blow hards and the last people I'd let touch a problematic weapon, and certainly last person I'd receive advice from on what the issue is behind it.

Is this your first 1911? I am assuming so.

I've got my Dad's Remington Rand 1911. Fun gun to take to the range, although the barrel is worn. I bought a CZ 75B after trying out a 1/2 dozen or so models. It fits my hand perfectly and is a tack driver. Has the look of a 1911.

Yeah, he started getting a little overboard in his collecting: he lost count of just how many he had, 4 gun safes stuffed, a wood cabinet, locked boxes, etc... He started selling them off and I told him I wanted this one, don't sell it. On one of my visits I told him I wanted to borrow it for awhile. I was afraid he'd forget and sell it! It is now safe in my safe. I was able to track the manufacture date and a few other things using the serial number and Google.

This is my first 1911, so kinda had to go with the nearest advice at the time. Range masters seem knowledgeable enough, and the range is attached to the place I bought it. They tried 2 other types of ammo in it in addition to the ones they sold me with it. It's not going to cost me anything except time, so I'm good with it. I'm real enough to know things happen, so will wait and see. Like I said in my post, I'm glad to see so many good things said, makes me more confident that it's a fluke that will be fixed.

Very nice pistol!! You can find original barrels around for not a lot of money - bet one and swap it when you are firing the pistol, then put the original back in for the historical value. You might also look at buying a recoil spring buffer - powder loads of commercial ammo many times exceed the original specs of the M1911A1. You don't want to crack the frame.

    This is my Remington Rand.

Yours as well! Shoot it often?

I'll look into the replacement barrels. I only shoot it occasionally. Once was at a three day handgun class (Front Sight). I brought my CZ as my training gun, but took the 1911 just for fun. One of the instructors want to shoot it, so I said sure. After he shot a few rounds I turned around and there was a line of half a dozen or so guys also wanting to take few shots with it! The instructor wanted to buy it from me on the spot but there's no way I could or would sell it.

I shoot mine 4 or 5 times a year. I carried one of them when I first went into the Army - we switched to the M9 about 6 years after I was commissioned and I hated the M9. The Czs are nice pistols!

I know that Kimber recommends that you clean and oil there guns before 1st shooting. The guy at the shop said that the oil Kimber uses to protect the gun during shipping is thicker. Also they mentioned there is a such thing as to much oil. I am not suggesting these caused your issues.
What kind of jam were you getting?

It wouldn't load a round, more often than it would load one. After 5 guys tried it, they called Ruger and it ended up going back. When it came back, it worked fine and I shoot better with it than my M&p that I've had for a couple years. Very pleased with it.
