One can never have too many light bars.
I pay $630 every 6 months for full max coverage with a clean record. $ 500 deductible and a separate windshield deductible of $100. Through Geico. This is in Northern CA and I'm a 24 year old male. I think I'm getting a pretty good deal.

Thank you for reinforcing what I said up-thread. But mark my word: I've been on car message boards for about a decade and you can say it until you're blue in the face and people will still try to compare their rates. I'll say it once, twice, maybe three times and then I'll just give up and laugh.

I did run a few year models and recorded the symbols but I forgot them at work. DOH! I'll bring them home tomorrow. But running them I noticed some interesting fact. CAM37 I know you know this, but alot of you may not. When you do not put in a specific VIN, but generalize by the year/make/model a list pops up of all the available models for that vehicle that were available for that year and you can narrow it down from there. Here is the interesting thing, starting from 2005 to the present, the number of available combinations for our trucks have steadily decreased from like a full page to like a few combinations available.

The other sort of pattern I noticed (depending on the options packages) the 2012-2015 Tacomas tend to sometimes rate bout 1 point lower than the 2005-2011 Tacomas. (The more points, the higher the rate) I think because of the additional safety features.

I'll make sure I bring the info home tomorrow night.

EXCELLENT ADVICE! Back in 1999 I had a new 4Runner, was waiting at a stop light. I looked over at my friend who was in the passenger seat. He was laughing... I said whats so funny... he said "heh, that guys not gonna stop". THEN BAMB! the police estimated he hit as 55MPH. we ended up facing the opposite direction in a ditch on the other side of the intersection. Damages were about $15,000. He had $10,000 worth of coverage. Turns out he was drunk, and had drugs and other crap on him. He went to prison. Even if a sued him, I would have received nothing. He was living with his mom unemployed and he totaled his truck in the wreck.

The other side of that is this. If you were the guy that hit me and just had minimum coverage, but you happen to have a house, a job, a boat, a checking account, a savings account, or anything at all of any value, it would either belong to me or the 2 girls in the backseat! The other guy had the worst possible insurance company in the country! US AGENCIES! They would not even take my calls about the additional damage... until miraculously for some reason out of the blue a courier showed up at my door one day with a check for the EXACT amount it would take to cover my damages if I would sign a release. I later found out that it was right after they started getting claims and letters from attorneys regarding the girls injuries.

That was my first experience with US Agencies, now working in the insurance business, I can tell you for sure they are the 2nd WORST insurance company in the United States, only second to USAA!

Long, really long (sorry about that) story short, it will probably cost you and extra $20 a month to get proper coverage guys and it could save your life both physically and financially! Think about it, alot of states only require you ta carry $20,000 to $25,000 property damage insurance. You could not buy a new Tacoma for that now, imagine if you hit a new Mercedes? You owe the balance!

    ---- edit ----
to answer the obvious question, NO I DID NOT HAVE FULL COVERAGE ON A NEW 4RUNNER! I was so smart I paid cash and decided to save $$$$ by just getting liability insurance! Live and learn I guess...

Yep, jb1965... thanks for sharing that. Everyone thinks what happened to that guy can't happen to them. If you have any assets at all, you better protect them with proper coverage. If you own a home, have a 401k, investments, anything of value... I recommend you not only carry at least 100/300/100 Liab coverage, I also recommend a PLUP (Personal Liability Umbrella Policy). A million dollars of coverage does not cost all that much and you'll sleep much better at night. That policy would protect you against all sorts of liability issues, not just auto accidents. For instance, if I sue someone for slander or libel for a post on here. hahaha... kidding. Sort of. ;)

I have Geico insurance and I pay a premium of 351.00 for 6 months. I think my monthly bill was 65.00, but opted to do the 6 month plan. BTW I have comprehensive insurance.

Wish we could get rates like that in Canada, I'm about an hour and a bit west of Toronto with full coverage, rental car, road side assistance, the works. My truck is also my daily so commuter/pleasure.

    $300 comprehensive deductable
    $500 collision
    $2 mil liability

I pay somewhere in the ballpark of $200 a month, and that's the cheapest rate I could find and I went to about 8 different places.

It's all a numbers game. The vehicles and drivers that fit a certain profile that cost insurance companies the most get the highest rates. Female drivers are involved in a lot more accidents, but they tend to be things like backing into a pole or mailbox that are often never reported. Young male drivers are in far fewer accidents, but many are high speed crashes with 1 or more totaled vehicles and lots of injuries or deaths. Many insurance companies are using your FICO score to calculate your rate. Studies show a better FICO score is a predictor of a better driver.

Repair or replacement of damaged vehicles is a small part of an insurance companies losses. The biggest expenses are for medical bills. You can be driving a 20 year old POS worth $1,000 and cost the insurance company just as much in medical bills in a crash as a guy driving a $100,000 Mercedes. Lots of guys complain about the higher cost of insuring older vehicles. Just because you car isn't worth much doesn't mean it won't cost your insurance company lots of money. Tacomas may be cheaper to insure more because of the demographics of the drivers who buy them than the vehicles themselves.

Safer cars may prove to cost insurance companies less. My insurance actually dropped when we traded a 13 year old Grand Cherokee for a new Honda for my wife to drive a few years ago.

Good advice here, but one flaw I feel obligated to correct. Nobody's 401(k) is at risk in a civil suit. 401(k)'s are known as a qualified plan and the qualified nature of the plan gives the assets protection from civil law suit. I happen to work in the 401(k) business with my target corporate client having more than $1B in total plan assets and more than 10,000 individual participant accounts so I like to think I know my way around these plans. I wouldn't normally nit pick and sidetrack from the actual intent of this thread, but I think correction is important because I wouldn't want anyone to not save in their 401(k) out of fear the assets can be attacked in a civil lawsuit. Saving in your 401(k) is a good thing and the primary investment vehicle most of us have saving for retirement. Your 401(k) can be distributed if a judge issues a Domestic Relations Order common in a divorce, but the money is perfectly protected from civil suit.

I have always loved how my 2015 is insured today as the new vehicle it is. Probably $28-30k blue book. Yet in 2025 it will still be insure at same rate (more likely higher, obv). Even though its blue book will be half.

Insurance is just a necessary evil. Locally we have Acuity headquarters. They pretty much have had non-stop expansion going on for paat 10+yrs. But they treat employees super well (#2 behind Google now i believe). But what a racket insurance as a whole is.

I just have to point out that doing $100k property damage [and much worse in medical] is easy these days. And judges have a bad habit of not being predictable.
I carry 300/500/500. And I carry an 'umbrella' policy on top of that.
The worst thing you can do is be under-insured.

+1 - premiums are comparatively cheap for the protection afforded.
