know, I am wanting to wire reverse camera (aftermarket) so that I can flip a switch and view the rear of my truck. I have the diagram to do this but there is no Radio Shack around me (with in 60 miles) and I am not sure what diode I need to order to put in line in reverse light. If anyone can tell me what I need to search for on Amazon or eBay, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry forgot, hello to all and love this great site, new Tacoma owner here and have been lurking for a month or so. already attempted and completed some of the mods posted here. thanks to all for the GREAT site

    thanks

not sure you need a diode. Use a spdt switch. It will have three terminals , one for each of the feeds and a common to go to your camera. One side of the switch can be wired to your backup light to power the camera when the switch is in that position (in that switch position the power feed to the camera is from the backup light wire, which energizes when the vehicle is in reverse). The other side of the switch should be some other power source such as an add a circuit so you can feed the camera through an alternate source. With the switch in the second position then you have power to the camera and can view regardless of which gear you are in. Do it that way and no need for a diode cause you won't be backfeeding your reverse lights.

Thanks, that is why I was told I needed the diode to stop back feed, this would be even better, thanks again
