Hello, i'm planning to get a first gen and lower it and put some 18s 0r 20s but i want a v6, should I get the Trd 2 wheel drive single cab v6 or should i get a Base model tacoma V4 and then do a swap in the future?

Welcome. I suggest you start out with the V6 as a swap will cost you more in the end.

Budget you had in mind? I've never priced out lowering one but I can bet a swap from 4cyl to 6cyl requires more work and money.

I believe the V6 was available in the 5 lug meaning its not a Pre-Runner.

If you're serious, I suggest doing more research then. It's not a V configuration for 4 cyl and Tacoma's never came with a V8.

You're asking about a 1st gen and these pictures are 2nd gens. I have seen a V8 in a pre-tacoma truck so I know it's possible. I guess it all depends on how deep your pockets are or how good your fab work is.

12K is not enough to do this kind of swap of pictures you are showing...double it and you are close unless you do it yourself. The other issue is in the state you live in...can you pass inspection? If you plan to do this swap correctly, it has to be done with a model year that is newer or equal to your truck...there are more regulaations, but it depends on the state. Single cab...are you talking regular cab or access cab? Not many if any V6 regular cab...I think one prerunner year had it...not sure about that. If you access cab...Xrunner is your starting route to go if you want V6, but it's still too heavy then you'll need supercharger.

Unless you have a bigger budget and know how...this is just a dream. You can get supercharger 4 cylinder, but still it's not going to pass smog. If you need a truck...get this and then get a sports car down the line unless you are ready to put about quite a bit of money...labor will be expensive if you have someone do it. Buy a cracked up mustang will run you about $6K to $8K to get all the parts you need...so unless you have resources I say you try another platform for your mods. I have looked into this option. Good luck

    Agreed!

Although what do you mean a supercharged 4cyl won't pass smog? The v6 will just fine (with the TRD s/c anyway).

Unless you get a Force Induction unit that has a CARB certification, it can't pass CA smog. There's ways to deal with it...but the fact/law in Cali is that any force induction must have a CARB certification. So some or most vendors that sells their kits don't have it...it's expensive to get it certification and a process to go through. V6 TRD S/C are already CARB certified by Toyota so they you are good with that... so Xrunner is a best bet for the OP to save up and get that. But think that's not enough power if he/she is looking at V8.

If you get a supercharger from URD, it's not CARB certified so if you get that kit...have to deal with it when it comes to time get it SMOG checked.

Gen1 Tacos can get their 2.7L supercharged if I'm not mistaken, but I'm not aware of a Gen2 2TR-FE forced induction that has CARB sticker.

If you want a reg cab 3.4l six lug they are pretty rare these days, they were only made 95-97...

They sure are. I've only seen two in the road so far and one is mine.

Yeah, they should have. I would totally get a 2nd gen reg cab with the 4.0.
