After reading this thread and having the same issue, I did some testing. I found that it will only display messages if I have the "show on lockscreen" switched to on in the messages notifications settings on my iPhone. I don't know of this will work for everyone but this is how I got it work on my iPhone running ios 9.

I just bought my truck this week, all of this worked beautifully. Then iOS 9.3.1 came out and I applied the update to the phone. Truck then stopped offering the "read" button to read them to me or show the txt' when stopped as it should work. I deleted the truck from the phone and the phone from it and re-paired fresh and all is well (Toyota finance guy warned me to assume you should do this with any updates to Toyota or the phone). And to the android douche bag who apparently gets kicks trolling a thread not even for his interest, he will run into this, you know, eventually if <insert Korean plastic manufacturer here> ever makes their crappy device work with even 1 generation of upgrades to lollipop or mango Julius or whatever the hell there calling the next android release. ;)

Now I'm being called an Android douchebag and troll....

All I ever said was the problem with the interface is likely the truck or the phone so pick which one is giving the OP fits and try to correct.

Apparently you Apple people have alot to do everytime an update is released to keep your interfaces problem free.

No wonder you're all so angry that you have to ignore reasonable suggestions and resort to name calling. I'd be pissed too if I had to constantly reconfigure my phone and truck everytime an update is released.

Fortunately I haven't had the need to unpair/repair my phone and truck using my Samsung S4 (S7 is out but I don't feel the need to keep upgrading) even though I've received updates regularly. I also happen to troubleshoot electronic interfaces for a living so there's that too. Don't worry about me, my phone or my truck, we'll be fine.

By all means keep your temperamental phone interfaces and continue to unpair and repair as needed because your problems will apparantly return after updates. Might even sticky this thread so you can all readily reference in the future and keep the name calling down to a minimum when people suggest other phone interfaces aren't having the problems the IOS seem to be suceptible to.

Once again the adult is finished providing help.

Just got mine this weekend as well. Everything works perfect except I can figure out why some songs are listed twice. I'm using iTunes and don't have any duplicates

Guys, when we you have this problem it will really likely be fixed if you delete and re-pair - no biggie and that's the real solution.

iPhone is not compatible with Entune. However on the '16 you can hold the phone button until Siri picks up and respond that way. In reality it's better because the voice recognition is better (still pretty shite in the long run, but better none the less). I have a problem where the text messages won't be read unless I disconnect Bluetooth and reconnect it. Makes no sense.

edit: to clarify. "not compatible" with some functions.

Yes, be sure to delete the truck off of your phone and delete the phone out of your truck so they are being paired again fresh, no baggage. If you do this after you update iOS (if you see issues) should fix it most times. It's because Toyota releases and Apple releases aren't always perfectly in sync. The same goes for other phones' operating systems, they just tend to not upgrade their OS often if ever.

As for this, the only Entune function I'm aware of not being compatible is reading and showing e-mail (not just txt) in the entune messaging and optionally reading them to you. A function you can easily ask Siri to do since you have that option as mentioned.

I could not receive or see messages until I updated the entune software and have not had an issues. I read and see texts. I can respond using Siri. The application is working as designed. 5S and 6 both work effortlessly.

Is there a way to disable this feature? The last thing I need is my passengers reading my text and emails.

OK if you have quick contacts on your home screen or have quick contacts setup while using an iPhone 5-6s it will not work.

Unpair your phone, forget device under bluetooth on iPhone and remove cached data in setup on Entune.

Now start setup of iPhone and Entune as if you are new to system, DO NOT setuup quick contacts on your home screen on Entune, ensure you have notifications turned on iPhone in the bluetooth settings.

Have someone send you a text and it should work. I will not let you respond/reply with an iPhone except through Siri.

Glad to see I'm not the only one having issues. So far, none of the solutions in this thread have worked. It did read one text to me today, the rest "read" has been grayed out with only the "ignore" button highlighted. Now I don't even get the pop-up. To make it even more confusing, when I tap on the envelope on the screen, sometimes it shows zero messages, and other times it will ask me if I want to set up messaging.

As for the Android guy, I started with my first Android handset in November 2008. I switched to an iPhone late last year. Yes, Entune probably works better with Android. The OS is more open to that. It's not a single phone issue or radio issue. It seems to be an interface problem.

iPhone 6 running iOS 10, native messaging app.
    No updates pending on Entune

If I'm listening to Pandora via my iPhone and get a text message, after I listen to it - it no longer automatically goes back to Pandora, it actually goes to my iPhone player's music.

    Very annoying...
