I may be ignorant to the ways of new car manufacturing, but I have been patiently waiting to "test drive" a 3rd gen since October. Turns out, every time I go to the local dealers there are NO 3rd gens in sight. Obviously people are snatching them up as fast as they arrive, but seriously, is everyone simply pre-ordering these things so they are already sold the moment they hit the dealer's pavement? I wanted to "test drive" a 3rd gen so that I could make a more qualified decision on whether to unload my 2nd genS (Tacoma and Tundra) on the upcoming Tacoma TRD PRO model. Apparently I am going to have to pre-order one of those sight unseen.

I'm in Utah so, aside from Hawaii, people can't own a new Tacoma fast enough here.

You could prder one. Then if you dont like it back out. The deposit is refundable. They wont have a problem selling it anyway

Didn't know that. What is the deposit amount required? Is the same true for a PRO?

I believe its for all. Not 100 percent sure though. And a dealer shouldnt have you make up your mind before you test drive one

Pre-ordered mine in June and pick it up in November. The first time I got to drive one was when I left the dealer in mine.

Well that depends on what market you are in I am located on the east coast mid Atlantic region and I have been to four Toyota dealerships and most of them seem pretty stocked with SR5 and Sports. A few of them had a couple of limited models. However I have only seen one off road in the past three months. I think Toyota is still trying to meet demand which I don't think will occur until 2017.

I live in Hawai'i and I just got mine last week, when I went to the lot they had a few but the selection was pretty thin. I wanted a Limited in Magnetic Grey, they checked stock and there was on on the dock that was not spoken for so I was lucky. I live in Hawai'i by the way.

I was told my deposit was non-refundable. That said, there's always a way to get a refund.

It really comes down to the fact that Toyota decided to vastly expand their target demographic.

So for 2016 they decided to manufacture the most expensive vibrator money can buy. Now ALL the ladies want one too!

It must depend where you live for sure. I drive by the stealership every day here in Floriduh and while I notice the inventory does move eh, fairly quick there are always appears to be at least 10 or so sitting there. Doubt they are all spoken for

I would never, ever, ever work with a dealer that demanded deposits be non-refundable. Naughty stealer.

Judging by how the company is dragging their heels on warranty and recall work, I wouldn't buy a new one. I'd just be fixing a different truck, and spending more to do it.

This thing is either gonna last until I can't drive anymore, or it's not, but I'm not getting screwed over again.

Not that I feel particularly bad about the Taco I own. As long as it starts every time and runs well I can forgive a little minor BS. But I'm getting bummed about the sagging spring recall thing.

Tires are wearing funny, it won't hold an alignment, handles like hell, headlights going out of alignment, flaky tracking, funky body roll, bottoms out, .

It feels like I bought an old Chevy and lowered it with a torch.

Same here in NM. I think there's one SR and one DC OR on the lot at the local dealer. They don't sit long, because the OR versions get alot of use here.

Dealers around here always have a few at least. Usually sports and maybe a limited. If you go to rural or blue collar areas you see the SR and SR5s. Some big dealers have good inventory but they are few and far between.
