Do you have to use the OW20 oil for warranty or can you use quality synthetic?

Also.... anyone tried to install a remote start yet?
Local dealer says it is not approved yet from their end.

Manual says to only use 0W-20... So... use 0W-20.

The 0 20 is synthetic. So not sure what you are asking exactly.

Try a search on remote start. I think someone has mastered that

Ok sorry... the dealer said that this specifically was required vs going to the local oil change places and using say another synthetic and it must be performed at the dealer for warranty. I was-am a little skeptical about the quality of this oil but if it is as good as the others them cool.

If your engine lasts at least 60,000 miles with 0W-20 I'm pretty confident it's good enough. You bought it new. You paid for it with warranty, so don't be afraid. If it breaks down on you, its on them. They'll take care of it for 25,000 miles and then it's up to you. I'm starting to decide that I'm probably going to buy Toyota oil because it's what they do testing with and because 0W-20 is the same price as the one you try to buy off the shelf.

They can not legally make you take it to the dealer for oil change for warranty. If you were required to take it to a dealer in order to not void warranty, they would have to make it free for as long as you have warranty. Now, you do have two years Toyota care which will cover the first two oil changes, I would take advantage that. Oil change is something you can do yourself without voiding warranty, jus keep receipts of the oil you bought. Now it does say 0W20, so you should use that.

For what ever it's worth there is some chemist guy. Think his name is bob that had the Toyota 0-20w analyzed. He has a thread in here somewhere. Allegedly the Toyota oil 0-20w is about the best you can get. It beats out Mobile1 or so the thread says. It's the "brand of engine oil" thread in this forum. There is a link to bobistheoilguy.com. Kinda an interesting read about detergents and what not in the different brands if your into that.

In the warranty book it tells you that you don't have to only use dealer to maintain the warranty. Page 19 of Warranty

The Toyota 0-20 synthetic is the best oil you can get. I got a case for easy $$ off ebay. Like $40 a case.

I change my oil & lube every spring and fall I don't care how many miles on it. I will do my spring change myself, already lubed it.

Why would you not want to use 0w20?

    Also, it is synthetic, so...

Oh yeah I forgot to mention - we can use 5w20 but then the oil needs to be changed every 5K not 10K, go figure.

Yea, it says you can use it and change at 5k when going back to 0w20. They are pretty adamant about using 0w20.

Toyota Brand... Like Harley Davidson Oil it's mystery oil!!!! BUT, it has been said in the distant past that Mobil made 0w20 specifically for Toyota. Since other car manufacturers have started using 0w20, Mobil has put their label on it. Now, Mobil may make a special additive blend 0w20 just for Toyota.
