I just joined the website and its nice to find a site just for Tacoma's. I was looking at a conversation regarding CAI. Several people mentioned a deck plat mod, Could someone explain why its better than a CAI and if possible a picture to see what it looks like. It sounds a lot better than forking out the extra money for the same results.

I always heard of folks with 1st Gen Tacomas doing the deck plate mod. I did it on my 2002. Basically just cut a hole in the front of the air box. Put some mesh over the hole as a pre filter. And you can get fancy and use one of those screw in boat deck plates in case there is a chance you are going to be doing any water crossings.

Performance wise, I don't think it did anything lol... Maybe made the intake louder, but I couldn't feel a difference.

I think the same can be said about the CAI... May add a few hp, but not enough to notice when used by itself.

If you add headers, exhaust, and a CAI, it may make a slight difference... But the only real way to get more power is to supercharge it!

mods under 2 grand are as useful as no mods at all as far as power is concerned

    I have a K&N CAI in my 2015.

    Benefit:
Motor sounds louder at high RPMs

    Cons:
Motor sounds louder at high RPMs
    Cost money.
    Was a PIA to install.
Didn't do anything else for me.
Some say the oiled filters are problematic and may not filter very well.

@Torspd He's got all the dyno runs with an NA engine and mods in his sig IIRC.

URDUSA offers an NA mod package that's somewhere in the ballpark of $1500 or more I think and they're are saying about 60 HP gain. But I'm guessing that's Intake/Headers/Y Pipe/Exhaust/ Tuner.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Oiled filters will foul your MAF sensor. And "high flow" air filters while wheeling... well... Race trucks have dust condoms on the airbox in addition to an engine intake, take that to mean what you want.

@MidWest Truck 67 if you want power you want a supercharger.
