Question of the day... Why is my ebrake/brake system trouble light always on?

When the trailer brake controller was installed by previous owner, the harness was wrapped around the ebrake assembly (I guess to save money on buying zipties) under the dash. I can just about imagine the look on the installer's (I use this term loosly) face when he pulled the ebrake and it bound up into the wiring. To remedy this, the pin which pushed on the ebrake sensor was removed and discarded. This led to the indicator thinking the ebrake was always on.

I ordered a new pin from Toyota and this corrected my brake system indicator being lit all the time. Pin is pictured in photo below. Minus the terrible wiring which I have removed and will install new if I ever need to tow anything.

Also, I cleaned up the hackjob under the rear of the truck. As with most trailer brake controller installs I have seen, this one was a mess. The quality installation also caused the drivers side tail brake light to cease functioning and somehow they managed to break the liscence plate lighting aswel.

    Edit:spelling

Next up when the truck can be down for a couple days is pull the interior and clean it, fix any floor rust, and primer/paint or use bed liner on the floor. If the carpet cleans up nicely it will be going back in.. If not, il bed liner the floor.. The back of the cab is very clean, seats are perfect and not dirty.

Bonus: The factory tire jack and tool kit is complete and in its proper storage location surprisingly

Also on the to-do is routine prop shaft grease ect. Changing trans, transfer case, and differential fluids before winter. And inspecting/repacking the front wheel bearings.

My old man has almost exact same truck one owner with 224,000 miles on it. He's looking to sell it now and it's so tempting to not want to buy after seeing your build. Here's his looks same like same color and everything.

If your old man lives on the east coast, I am 90% sure I talked to you old man one day this fall at a Napa actually... Never saw him around again since. He was buying tail light lens's. If not, its a clone of the truck you posted.

Also, I need to do an update one of these days.

Update: Installed a detroit truetrac in the rearend. while I was in there I serviced the rear drums, lubricated the bellcranks, cleaned up any bolts I had apart and changed the studs in the rearend out for grade 12.9 button head bolts (basically the same as trailgears differential stud eliminator kit), replaced a few missing lockwashers. Cleaned up the gasket surfaces and reinstalled rearend with toyota fipg.

Also put new speakers in the xtracab portion of the truck.
