I hope I'm not the only one out there beyond frustrated with Toyota Corps decision to delete the auto trans dipstick, and all the associated trans problems resulting from low fluid levels!
I'm hoping This poll can be sent to Toyota, let them hear this from a group of Tacoma owners, instead of one by one, case by case basis.
If you think the poll should be changed, or added to, let me know

Being an BMW tech I deal with no dipsticks on ANY engine or trans. Shit - some of our diffs don't have a fill plug. The engines are sealed for EPA/emissions reasons believe it or not, this may be the reason for the transmissions missing it. I know there would be no realistic space to put them on the BMW's though as well.

You wanna know what's really shitty? You can't put ANY of the automatics in neutral without crawling under the car, removing a ton of screws and a panel and then screwing in a bolt that puts the trans in neutral - while underneath the car. This is especially fun in the rain, cold and snow. I'll take a cable release WAAAY before they put a dipstick back.

As an older service tech, I haven't been involved much in recent years since I retired.
I just feel frustrated at the difficulty that's been created just to check our fluid levels, and with all the hoops you have to jump
through to get the fluids checked at the dealership.

They got rid of it over 10 years ago. They are not going to bring it back because of some Tacomaworld poll. Once you know how to check fluid level it's not that hard. And once fluid level is correct as long as it's not leaking you shouldn't have to worry about it.

We also need to run a specific procedure while checking/filling with our diagnostic software to accurately fill the trans too. The transmission oil temperature needs to be at 30C to start filling but below 40C. Believe it or not our 8 speed ZF trans will act up if it's as low as 200-300 milliliters. Yes.... MILLILITERS.

What I don't understand is why the service departments are giving people such difficulty with this. I guess every place is different and we are very accommodating with things like this this, but if someone bought a new Beamer and 200 miles later said the trans was acting funny and they heard the fluid level may be low there would be NO issue whatsoever. Actually, even if they just said the level may be low because they heard a bunch had this problem it wouldn't be big deal.

No engine OR trans dipstick? And no Neutral? Shifter says P,R,D? How dummy proof can we get?

The shifters are all electronic, there is no physical connection with the transmission. Let say the fuel pump goes - either have to crawl underneath or dolly the car in. Since almost every single one is now AWD we have to dolly all 4 wheels to do that.

Oh and no more PRNDL at all.

I won't drive an automotive lol. While I really like my truck one of the main reasons I started going with Tacomas and my FJ was the fact that I could get a manual trans in something other than a base model 2wd drive vehicle.

I'll stick to manual transmissions, all of which I have owned over the years have been flawless. Can't say the same about the lone automatic I owned (06 Tacoma!) but the issues had nothing to do with the lack of a dipstick.

Yeah, considering the A340F auto (1st gen, ) 2nd gens w/dipsticks were pretty much the same trans I think, anyway I had severe sticker shock when quoted $3400-$3600 for a rebuild...

I'm going to sell my Tacoma and buy a bicycle. And not one of those new fancy bicycles, one that's 50 years old.
