Good off road air compressor recommendation?

Been a Tacoma owner for about a month now and have took it cautiously off road a couple times now but haven't put together a good off road kit to go further and deeper yet. My question is can anyone recommend a good portable air compressor that'll plug into the 110v outlet to re inflate the tires after lowering the psi for off road use? Thanks!

Viair or ARB makes portable compressors. I use a 10 lb Co2 tank. Way faster than a compressor but the down side is that it's not "unlimited air". It's good for a lot of tires but you still need to refill the tank when it's empty.

Why not use your AC compressor , they make kits to convert your compressor into a 120 psi air pump . It will be powerful enough to run air tools and easily inflate tires in seconds

All of my old rock crawling jeeps I had GM style AC pumps converted over and it was the best thing I ever did

Typical setup uses a semi truck air tank and hoses going to the front and rear of the vehicle for easy access

Yep those are very informative and tells you exactly what's involved . When I did my last one that was the late 90's and it worked very well . The secret is to get a good quality inline oiler for inlet side and then a good oil / air separator for the outlet side

This is a decent product at an affordable price (I remember when Pep Boys was clearing these out for $30)
Although I have an on-board Viair system, this portable rides along as a backup. Easily modified to accommodate standard QR fittings.

I refitted the hose with a standard coil hose and better air chuck from the auto parts store, the attached hose is certainly garbage. I also upgraded the wiring to larger gauge and put in an auto reset breaker as opposed to a fuse. There are several tutorials on boring out the intake and exhaust ports/replacing the reed valves but that wasn't as big of a deal to me. For $50 you can't go wrong with the MV50!

Fixed! I think their connects are all proprietary or are industrial vs automotive. I ran a tap down the threads just to clear them and a 1/4 thread air fitting fit no issues.

The gauge I've yet to find a fix for. I've found mine bounces to about 10PSI over what the actual pressure is so I just verify with a pencil gauge after and call it good. A liquid filled gauge might work but I don't feel like dropping that kind of change on a $50 compressor.

Under $10 at Harbor Freight should have your hose upgraded. I did see on a forum where someone mentioned HF had a similar compressor to the MV50 but appeared to have a better motor though I haven't seen one in the stores so I'm not sure if they were discontinued or not.

Anyone remember the Dick Cepek Engine air tire inflator ?? . The nylon /rubber hose that you would thread I to a spark plug hole and use the engines compression to inflate the tires

The gauge on my mv50 was consistently 7 psi above the actual pressure. It didn't bother me too much, but I ended up removing the gauge and drilling and tapping the hole to 1/4 npt and installing an interstate pneumatic gauge. I haven't tested it for accuracy yet, but I'll report after I do.

Big fan of the co2 setups. Source your own tank slap on a reg and good to go for awhile. My opinion the less moving parts and electricity the better.

I'll be able to let you new in two weeks, I'm headed to Moab on Tuesday for 6 days so I should be able to get a pretty good idea how many a 20# tank fills. The guy I wheel with has used his on his jeep all last summer and fills 35" tires every weekend, just refilled his for the trip.

I wanted something that was better than the cheapo HF units, but also wouldn't be to expensive and performed well. I settled on the Slime dual cylinder inflator. I've only used it on a few outings so far but pretty happy with it. It is reasonably quick for a portable and runs cooler than my last unit did.

image.jpg And $54 to fill. I added a 50' hose and tire gauges so I'm probably $425 with everything including the mounting hardwear and strap etc. it's also portable if needed. there are way cheaper regs out there but the powertank reg is worth the money imo.

I got a 150 psi harbor freight compressor that clamps to battery terminals. Takes under 5 minutes total to add 12 psi to all 4 tires.
