while it took a few steps forward, it has a few shortcomings.

Love my new taco. I think people will have a more biased opinion one way or another depending on what nissan and Honda do. However, I do not think the ridgeline with have traditional truck like qualities the mainstream requires. Soccer moms who want storage, a car like ride and frame, and speakers in the bed for jamming out to music while the kids get soccer gear on.

Nissan has a chance to steal some market share from the twins and toyota. I may have considered one (hard to say since its not out) based on past reliability. But, I have a feeling Nissan will not hit it out of the park. I have a feeling they will do like the past and make a more city truck with lower cost for those wanting a truck, but not concerned with off roading or driving in adverse conditions where bigger tires/lift/ would be beneficial. Just my 2 cents.

some of this, a little of that
In baseball terms...bases clearing double, it did the job and set the next one up but probably won't make the highlight reels.

The Ridgeline has torque-vectoring AWD, the ideal drivetrain for on-road snow/ice. If someone doesn't go off-road or tow 5k+ lbs, why should they accept the inherent drawbacks of a body-on-frame vehicle? If I didn't have to have a 6MT, I'd be all over a Ridgeline.

Also, vans are awesome. No other vehicle so adeptly combines utility, efficiency, and luxury. A van that trades the 3rd row for a bed seems like it would be the perfect vehicle for families of 4 or less that haul dirty stuff/pets.
