I have the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert on my Tacoma. My BSM functions to just light up the yellow LED in my side view mirror if someone is cruising next to me in my blind spot. I expected an audible alert from the lane change assist if I signal to change lanes when there's a vehicle in my blind spot. Instead, the LED just flashes but no sounds or audible alerts.

With the RCTA, I DO get an audible alert when I'm about to back out and something/someone enters my reversing path.

On my wife's Odyssey, the BSM seems to work a bit differently. If you signal for a lane change when someone is in your blind spot, you also get an audible "beep beep" warning. I like the added safety feature.

I am wondering if the lack of audible alert from the Blind Spot Monitor is a design choice by Toyota, or a faulty unit in my vehicle?? Does anyone else get an audible warning, or just the flashing LED's?

    Thanks!

I've noticed that too on mine but I would imagine it's buried in the settings, haven't had a chance to dig into it yet though. I believe my moms Lexus has the option I don't see why ours wouldn't.

I don't know anything about blind spot monitors, but that is a beautiful truck.

No audible alert. Did you look in the owner's manual first?...

No audible alert is by design. Can you imagine how annoying a constant audible alert would be on a busy freeway?

The idea is that you only get an audible alert when someone is in your blindspot AND you activate our turn signal (the same conditions that currently cause the mirror light to blink). It should be a rare situation, even on a busy freeway, but it's a feature I really appreciate on my wife's CX-5.

I also wish Toyota would at least include it as an option, but when I talked to the dealer, they said no dice.

So, do I understand you to say that the CX-5 BSM light only blinks when someone is in your blindspot AND the turn signal is activated at the same time.

Yes. It turns on whenever someone is in the blindspot, the begins to blink (and beep) if the turn signal is activated. The Tacoma is the same, minus the beep.

When your blinker is on the flash is a lot faster.

That's rear cross traffic alert not the blind spot monitoring.

Sounds like you got your answer and it is covered in the owner's manual, but I got a question off topic. Are you in Oahu by chance? That pic reminds of K-Bay.

My guess is Hawaii since his plate says servco.

Even with the BSM light, my mind tunes it out. I still find myself looking over before changing lanes.

When changing lanes and you see it flashing really quickly, make sure you floor it

That's what I thought too, but couldn't quite make it out. I actually took my Chevy TBSS to the Servco on the Windward side a few times to save me from driving to Honolulu.

Haha. I do miss that place from time to time.

Anything new on this topic? Turn signal on, light is blinking wildly but no beeping. What's up with that?
