For those who may not have heard, we had a legitimate rescue on the way out. Motorcyclist broke his ankle 2/3 of the way up Jail Canyon. We gave him some strong painkillers, got him comfortable, and loaded him into his buddy's 4wd Tundra. Last we heard he was doing well at the Ridgecrest Hospital.

Surprise Canyon is now closed to vehicles. One can get as far as Rock's old burned down pad, but it's hiking the rest of the way.

    Nope.

Barker Ranch, unfortunately mis-named as "Manson's Hideout/Compound," burned down a few years back. The foundations and gardens are all that remain. But the group that went that way turned around at the Robertson Mine -- which, btw, is apparently being re-activated.

Glad you guys had a good time. The cabins look to be in good shape. If it wasn't for us being on the other side of telescope peak in DV I would've joined you. I just posted our trip photos and details in the DV ORA thread. Well done on the rescue.
Shane Is this where you rolled last year?

That exact pic? No. That's about halfway down the alluvial fan portion.

The closest pic of where I rolled is the one with my gauges in the foreground and Brad's truck in the background. The spot is about 80 yards behind me in that pic.

Pretty much everyone except Will was running a Baofeng HT. Most of those were "hardwired" in (external antenna, 12v adaptor...some had a mic).

Google 25w dual band radio and you will find the Baofeng version of mine for as little as $75

Thing is absolutely awesome. You can get it for about $130, do a little mod that breaks a resistor which only allows listening on the higher freq's and you're solid. That's what I have done per the advice of my best friend matt, who has performed that little mod on about 12 of them now. Cheap and super effective radio.

Sorry for the lag fellas! I know pretty much everyone uploaded their photos on here but we have created a photobucket/imgr/drive type of thing directly on the anti-dark website. All you've got to do is go to www.anti-dark.com/deathvalley2016 and upload your pics. Anyone can view them and upload them from their phones to.

I'll upload my pics in here as well, lol sorry again for the lag. As some of you may know i'm quite capable of that.
