It looks like a lot of folks place orders for their Tacomas without being given a fixed delivery date or build date. A dealer is telling me that if I put down a deposit now it will be ready in two months. Is this legit or might the dealer be just guessing because he wants to make the sale?

If they already have the vehicle allocated, then having it within 2 months is a pretty safe bet. I ordered mine from a vehicle that was already allocated to the dealership, but it was scheduled to be painted white. I had them change it to Inferno and I took delivery of the vehicle in just over a month. They never cashed my deposit check and I wasn't obligated to purchase the truck until it came in and I had a chance to inspect/drive it first. For me, it all worked out just as they said it would. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if they are not being 100% truthful. The first dealer I went to was full of lies and half-truths.

Yep, if it's not allocated to the dealership yet they likely won't know when it will be built.

I had the same scenerio, had the truck allocated but just needed to approve the color change. Mine took 8 weeks from order to delivery after checking 5 dealerships to see who had one coming.
