Bilstien 5100s and Eibach, OEM or 880 springs along with some General Spring KC leaves would be the closest to stock. When I replaced my suspension I went this route and it's pretty close to stock. Very happy with it and it didn't break the bank

I replaced mine with Bilstein aftermarkets that were sold more or less as OEM replacements. The improvement was fantastic. There's a business that sells the full kit, wish I remembered the name... anyway, it was a drastic ride improvement especially in big bumps, and kept the OEM height.

Edit: I think this is the shop that I used: http://downsouthmotorsports.com/

I found my receipt from DownSouthMotorsports, here's what it says:

Toyota Tacoma Pre Runner (2/4wd) RCD/Bilstein
5100 Series Ride Height Adjustable w/5125 Series
    Rears 95.5-2004 (pair front/rear)
    (BE5-D558-T0)
Optional Dust Boots: Optional Dust Boots

I'm really happy with these for daily driving and towing, haven't had a lot of off-road time with them yet. There's definitely more control in the rear when towing, less bouncing.

    How many miles ??

Have the Lower Ball joints been replaced ??

I went with the Monroe Quick Struts because I just did not want to mess with them even having the goodies

My rear Springs are the General Spring Heavy Duty and Run Super springs

800 to 1000 pounds plus is the normal payload

I went with the Monroe Rear shocks because I had them on the shelf

Without the Lower Ball joints with the new hardware easy $500.00 plus.

Play in the steering can be any part of the steering linkage inner /outer tie rods the rack bushings the rack itself

Spindles Ball joints can all effect the steering

With the front off the ground you should be able find what is loose

Being up close and personal is the only way to find it

I really promote oem lower ball joints! Some peeps dont but most others like myself do. I like to buy my lbj's from camel back toyota. Its a stealership that sells online. They pretty much have the best lbj prices for oem.

Alot of people like energy suspension brand of bushings. More than just the rack bushings too. You can find that brand all over, Amazon is prolly your best bet there.
