I have a big trip planned to Colorado in early November. I haven't been in 9 years, but I was finally able to save up money and preference points for a mule deer hunt, just east of Rangely. The drive out there is about 1300 miles from Indy, and I am about a month or so out from getting new tires to replace my stock ones.

My original idea was to get new rims with the tires so I could save on gas, and minimize tread wear on the new set. I have the stock 245 75 16s (which suck regardless of the road conditions) and I plan on going to 265 75 16 Cooper MTP. Now I am second guessing myself. Am I over complicating it, or would it actually be worth it to have the old tires for the 1300 mile (one way) highway drive?

    Opinions?
