Hello everyone! Recently found a small part of the back seat that seems to get slightly cut every time the back part of the seat is folded down. It looks to me that the metal brakets on the side of the cushions have a little rigid part that is cutting into the seat.

Has anyone else noticed this with their Double Cab rear seats?

I fixed the problem for now by placing several layers of blue painters tape over the rigid part of the metal.

Maybe you could cover that sharp edge with piece of flexible door edge trim sold at most auto parts stores. I'm going to check mine.

The pics are so close, I don't really know what part of which seat you have the issue with... Hope I don't have that, but could you back out a bit on the pic and show where the problem is... Fold forward part or fold down part..???

Thanx man... appreciate you bringing this up..

    Cheers..:canada:

On second thought, it's a new truck. Let the dealer fix it under warranty.

Sorry for the super close pictures. Maybe these 2 help you out better. Its in the area where the seats folds down and touches the metal frame.

Haha yea it is a new truck which is frustrating and the dealer will be notified! Such a small issue but one that would annoy me down the road.

Just checked mine. No tear yet but the edge on the drivers side door is definitely sharp. Not so much on the passenger side. I slapped some electrical tape on the bracket just in case.

Thanks for the heads up OP!

    Hey Everyone!

Just following up about the sharp double cab rear seat brackets. Had some time recently and went by the two closest Toyota dealerships to see if I could check out and compare their brackets... Turns out its more than likely a Toyota manufacturing error. The sales and service people at the location where I bought the truck had no idea and were contacting corporate. They took a bunch of pictures to send along as well.

Also, wanted to see if the brackets in the Limited were the same and they are. If YOU have a Limited dont fold your rear seats down too much. I would assume the leather would tear faster than the cloth.

Anyways just wanted to give you fine people an update from what Ive seen! Anyone have time to check their brackets out Id love to hear feedback.

UPDATE: So Toyota finally got the replacement seat cover in stock to replace the seat that had a tear in it due to the sharp back seat brackets and scheduled a time to drop off the truck. Got a call the morning after dropping off the truck saying that the replacement seat cover was damaged as well so they have to order another seat cover which is on a National Back order. I think the sanding and repainting of the brackets went fine but when they were going to put the new seat cover on it was damaged already. While in the shop also having my ATF fluid checked to see if it is low as many other peoples have been.

One good perk of Battlefield Toyota in Culpepper... they gave me a brand new 2016 Tundra off of the lot for me to drive for the next week or so until the new seat cover comes in.

If you guys have a Double Cab check the brackets and if they are sharp get them fixed at the dealer! You paid a lot for that NEW truck, dont accept flaws!

Nice rental! My Tacoma has been in since Monday for tans fluid check, seat back rocking, replacement of gauge cluster due to resetting trip ODO, replacement hood scoop and fender flare (won't stay flat), and a few other issues. None major but man do they take forever to get things done.

They stuck me in a 4 banger base model Chevy Malibu for a rental. I feel like I'm going to get run over merging on the highway. Just not used to the lack of power, always owned a V8 until my Tacoma and it's not even that bad. It doesn't like the back roads much either, and I might have scraped a bit going down the dirt road to my brothers place . I feel like they should be required to rent out something similar to what was brought in. Like a Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra, whatever. But nope, I get a Chevy though Enterprise inside of Toyota. Quite ironic.

I'll have to check my seat when I get it back, I put it up and down quite often to fit things in the cab or just hear my sub better. Plus access the storage area multiple times a week for my work bag or camera/tripod.

I checked mine. I have rough edges. I'm sanding them down myself.

I would have sanded them down myself as well but since the cover was torn I wanted them to give me a new one. Dont really want a brand new truck with a ripped seat!

maybe it was a small batch of these that got produced wrong? I surly couldn't imagine every double cab built since mid last year has this same issue. Gotta love the quality control. Or lack there of

Yea that could be the case. I personally have checked 28 New tacomas in a 50 mile radius and every single one has had one if not two sharp brackets. Haha yes got to love the lack there of Quality control. They should give me a vehicle a year before its out and let me get the ins and outs figured out to save them some money!!

Sometimes quality control over looks small details like that.

For example the holes that whistle in the suspension. When they put the truck through a wind tunnel, they have wind blowing from only a couple set of angles and not every single angle. Otherwise, that whistle would have been caught early.

Another UPDATE! Alright folks, finally got my truck back after being in the shop for 24 days! Two things:

    1. After the dealership recieved the first replacement seat cover they discovered that it was damaged and so they had to order another one. The replacement for that seemed fine to them. Once they began to put the cover on they realized it was not quite right but still put the cover on. Now the seat has what I would call big air bubbles on the back part of the seat. Really annoying. I didnt even look at the seat very close when I picked the truck back up because I initially noticed that the truck had been scratched in a few spots. I had them take the truck back and fix the scratches and then went on my way. Notified the dealer and when I go in for my 5k service they will attempt the seat again.

    2. As I suspected the ATF was low .5 quart. They checked one time and called to say that it was fine. I then had them check it again closer to when I would pick up the truck and it was low .5 quart the 2nd time they checked. They topped off the fluid and I can tell a huge difference in the way the truck shifts!

All in all, happy I have my truck back and is in decent shape! I can deal with the rear seat for now, nobody ever sits there anyways! Hope everyone had a good 4th of July and have a great day!
