I think I found my retractable tonneau/bed rack system

I just watched a SEMA interview with Nils Forssman of TruckCoversUSA. I think this just sold me on the TruckCovers tonneau retractable and a bed rack system that I could use for a future roof top tent. The bed rack system fits into the portholes (not sure the technical name, but all pickups seem to have them), so it should have phenomenal support. Plus, at 16:17 minute of the SEMA interview, he explains the ability to use a lower-setting crossbar that seems perfect for a roof top tent (although it would sit rather low; shouldn't be too much of a hinderance to get into the retractable).

The negative nancy's will be along any minute to berate this but I think it looks badass and would like to know when it'll be released... my apprehension to a bed cover was loss of space and soft covers, I wanted a hard cover that retracts and it looks like that's what I can get!

It says it is available now. Talk to Kim at TruckCovers. I was considering the Retrax, but am just about sold on this. As for as the canister, apparently they have the industry's smallest -- all metal. The killer part of this is a potential bed rack that I can use for a RTT if/when I get one.

I've been looking for this as well. There's a guy on here that did the truckcoversusa cover with integrated Yakima rack for bikes and a carry cart/spare tire holder - here's link to his build. Those are pricey covers but they work and come together with the lower rack. I'm sure you could mount a tent platform on that. I'm thinking Kayaks for mine. The rack is removable with no tools in 5 minutes. Read that dudes build and he explains it all with pics - I think this cover and rack are great. Seriously considering this one.

Yeah, that's Toynado. I'm a little unsure, tho, if the Yakima racks would be able to support something heavier than bikes. But, yeah, that's a sweet setup. Think I will call Yakima to see how much those crossbar towers can hold.

Been contemplating a rack over cover type system as well. I do like the sound of the 4 corner drainage. Seems like these are very costly. My truck came with the factory tonneua which I'm not a huge fan of at all.

Pretty sure they can handle bikes and Kayaks and gear! You thinking about a tent right? Probably going to work for that too ... the tents come with a platform that will distribute weight when loaded with people enough to make it work fine. I'd call the tent company - maybe they know the answer! Or call truckcoversusa and see what they say. I bet they will know.

Yeah, I called TruckCovers. They recommended calling Yakima. Kim at TruckCovers did say that Yakima has some brand new bars available - Core bar and the Jetstream. Checked their site, and, yes, they do. I just have to call them to determine the weight limit.

Wasn't aware of the weight distribution platform with RTT. I am thinking about a CVT. But I don't know much of anything about them or other makes/models.

Well, it turns out that TruckCoversUSA does not have the American Truck Rack system for the Tacoma. Bummer. And I am still not sure if the Yakima rack would be able to support the weight of a rooftop tent, especially when people are sleeping in it.

I will need to explore whether the Mobtown crossbars works with the TruckCovers roll tonneau. Anyone know of any bed rack that goes UNDER the top cover of tonneau covers?

I was considering the Retrax MXPro, but think I am won over by the TruckCovers. A little pricey, but, might be worth it.

Can't comment on these but the roll n lock covers we've had issues with the spring/torsion bar snapping. Sucks to have to drill out the rivets and redo them. Also seen the lock mechanisms fail on them. Just saying beware. These aren't cheap
